Jussie Smollett Has Spoken About His Attack

On Tuesday everyone let out a huge gasp after hearing the news that Empire star Jussie Smollett was attacked in Chicago by two racist and homophobic demon dingles. The story has been developing over the course of the past few days with skeptics giving Jussie side-eye galore. Now Jussie is taking some time out from healing from his attack to address the incident and to also prepare for a show in Los Angeles tomorrow night.

In a statement given to Essence, Jussie didn’t shy away from the accusations that his story was a bunch of lies wrapped in publicity stunts. He wanted his fans to know that he’s still standing and appreciates all the love and support.

“Let me start by saying that I’m OK. My body is strong but my soul is stronger. More importantly I want to say thank you. The outpouring of love and support from my village has meant more than I will ever be able to truly put into words.

I am working with authorities and have been 100% factual and consistent on every level. Despite my frustrations and deep concern with certain inaccuracies and misrepresentations that have been spread, I still believe that justice will be served.

As my family stated, these types of cowardly attacks are happening to my sisters, brothers and non-gender conforming siblings daily. I am not and should not be looked upon as an isolated incident. We will talk soon and I will address all details of this horrific incident, but I need a moment to process,” he concluded. “Most importantly, during times of trauma, grief and pain, there is still a responsibility to lead with love. It’s all I know. And that can’t be kicked out of me.”

With Love, respect & honor…Jussie.”

Another reason Jussie may have spoken out is to comment on the inaccuracies surrounding details of the story. TMZ cleared a few things up. First off, Jussie didn’t refuse to hand over his phone to the cops. When they informally asked him for his phone he felt uncomfortable giving it to them but has agreed to gather records from his phone for their use. Also, reports came out that Jussie’s attackers were wearing MAGA hats, but the truth is that after the attack happened they screamed, “This is MAGA country“. He never told cops they were wearing MAGA hats. Finally Jussie didn’t wear the rope from the attack when he went to the hospital. Instead, he still had it around his neck when the cops arrived at his apartment 42 minutes after the attack took place to preserve the evidence. There’s also security camera footage from the building of Jussie walking in with the rope around his neck.

TMZ also reports that, although he’s still on the mend, Jussie is back in L.A preparing for a concert tomorrow where he will more than likely speak on the issue at hand.

The “Empire” star landed in L.A. Thursday, two days after the Chicago incident. Jussie has a concert Saturday night at the legendary Troubadour, and we’re told the show will go on.

Tickets for the venue — which has a capacity of 400 — were available Tuesday, but with all the hubbub it’s now sold out. The tickets were going for $20-$35 a pop, but they’re being resold for 70 bucks and more.

We’re told Jussie, who still bears scars and swelling, will almost certainly make reference to homophobia, racism and MAGA.

It’s times like these when I wish Cookie was a real person because Jussie’s attackers would get a swift kick in their asses and be fitted for a pair of concrete Jordans by the end of the episode.
