Farewell, Boo

If you’ve got a dog friend in your life, tell them to stop what they’re doing (taking their 18th nap of the day, probably) and pour out some of their kibble for Boo the Pom Pom. Boo was an internet star who had more Facebook followers than all of us combined times a million (unless your name is Vin Diesel, and if that’s the case, that last line isn’t for you and I’m also going to need you to serenade Boo with one of your touching nightingale bro ballads) and was once declared the World’s Cutest Dog. Sadly, the fluffy ball of animatronic teddy bear adorableness died yesterday morning at the age of 12.

Boo’s humans broke the sad news to his 16 million Facebook followers last night. That smug know-it-all Google tells me that the lifespan of a Pomeranian is 12 to 16 years, so Boo may have been on the young side, but his humans say he had heart issues that began after his pom brother Buddy died in 2017.  You can read the full note from Boo’s humans here, but here’s part of it:

With deepest sadness I wanted to share that Boo passed away in his sleep early this morning and has left us to join his best friend, Buddy. Our family is heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain or discomfort. We know that Buddy was the first to greet him on the other side of that rainbow bridge, and this is likely the most excited either of them have been in a long time.

I brought Boo home in the spring of 2006 and so started the greatest, most heartwarming friendship of all time. Shortly after Buddy died, Boo showed signs of heart issues. We think his heart literally broke when Buddy left us. He hung on and gave us over a year. But it looks like it was his time, and I’m sure it was a most joyous moment for them when they saw each other in heaven.

Boo, we love you with all our hearts and will miss you until the day we meet again. Have fun running around with Buddy and creating adorable mischief wherever you guys go.

Like Jiff the Pomeranian, Boo’s internet fame led to getting that money through endorsement deals and through his many books and toy line. Boo traveled everywhere, and met many of his fans (including The Silver Fox). Boo can now rest in heaven, where he and Buddy are causing the angels to awww themselves inside out with their double dose of happy cuteness:

Rest in peace, Boo.
