Prince Philip Is Willing To Give Up Driving – If He Must
The roads around Sandringham Estate were more like the Monaco Grand Prix Thursday when a Kia slammed into Prince Philip’s Land Rover…which the 97-year-old was driving himself. I assumed the Kia driver was sent to the guillotine since Philip is old enough to remember when that was a viable punishment, but I guess the royals exchanged “well wishes” with the driver (aka they were told nobody needed to get lawyers involved). The other matter at hand is why someone who is nearly 100 is still behind the wheel, but there’s chatter of forcing Philip to turn in his car keys.
People says Philip will “reluctantly” give up driving if people ask him to, even if he talks shit about it behind people’s backs after. Phil’s friend and royal biographer Gyles Brandreth gave more scoop on where the prince’s head is:
“One of the frustrations of getting older is your world is shrinking. And his life has become more circumscribed. He visits old friends but it’s frustrating as you grow older to find your world is getting smaller. The independence for an old person to be able to get into their car and just go down the road is a wonderful thing.”
Yeah, I’m sure Philip is pissed that he can’t get over a fight with the Queen by just jumping in the car and driving over to the nearest Tesco while blaring Kylie Minogue. Gyles admitted it was a combo of the queen and P’s insurance company telling him to park his ass in a Barcalounger and heckle Duchess Camilla like someone his age should be doing. He also said Philip will likely not respond well to giving up his keys. Someone who also isn’t responding well is Philip’s daughter, Princess Anne. When asked by a photographer how her dad was doing, she snapped at a reporter and said, “I’ve no idea. You know where I am? Same place as you.” Damn, Anne! Don’t kill someone for doing their job!

I’ll chalk her bad attitude to her being just told she’s going to be responsible for driving her dad around as soon as his ass turns in the keys!
