Amy Schumer will try to grab Gladys Knight by her Thriller music video extra tunic and drag her…

Super Bowl LIII is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia this year, and so they’ve gotten hometown queen Gladys Knight to sing the National Anthem.

I’m so glad they went with classic over trendy. Because this would have been the perfect opportunity for them to ask some new, up and coming pop tart to dress herself in a slutty American flag dress and scream her way through “Star-Spangled Banner“. Or, they could have asked Fergie. Shudder. But back to Gladys. CBS Sports reports that she’s super excited to be a part of this tradition, especially after partnering with the NFL for an initiative called Inspire Change.

Following in the footsteps of Cher, Neil Diamond, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel and countless other celebrity anthem guests, Knight says she is “proud” to represent the NFL in singing before Super Bowl LIII.

“I am proud to use my voice to unite and represent our country in my hometown of Atlanta,” she said. “The NFL recently announced their new social justice platform Inspire Change, and I am honored to be a part of its inaugural year.”

Inspire Change’s main focus will revolve around education, law enforcement relations within communities  and criminal justice reform. This is actually perfect for Gladys who has long been a proponent social justice and civil rights. Knowing that she’s going to sing the anthem gives me a reason to watch now because after the Eagles were eliminated I stopped caring who went to the Super Bowl. Now I know I have to watch, but only if she performs on a stage that looks like a train platform and after she’s done with the anthem she finishes by riding away on a model train while saying “I GOT to go! I GOT to go!” while making her exit.
