Netflix Debuted Some Characters For Their Prequel To “The Dark Crystal”
Netflix is making a prequel to the nightmare-inducing horror show that is The Dark Crystal, and they just released a sneak peek at what some of the Gelfling characters will look like. What’s a Gelfing, you say? Well, it’s a shrunken down elf looking mother fucker that’s been run through one too many SnapChat filters. They’re also the heroes in Jim Henson’s 1982 original film and will be back, this time wearing a lot of bronzer, for Netflix’s 10-part series that will air sometime next year.
Here’s a look at the creepy little dudes and dudettes.

According to TV Line, these Gelfling are named Rian, Brea and Deet, and will be voiced by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy who was in The Witch, and Nathalie Emmanuel from Game of Thrones. Other Gelfling will be voiced by Helena Bonham-Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones, and Alicia Vikander. Here’s the plot:
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will take place “many years” before the events of the film. “When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”
Some of those Skeksis will be voiced by Mark Hamil, Andy Samberg, Harvey Fierstein, Keegan-Michael Key, and Simon Pegg. Honestly, I’m surprised Harvey Fierstein didn’t voice all of them in the original because that’s how I remember them all sounding. The movie will still feature puppets but will also utilize “a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects”. Let’s hope they don’t go too crazy with the digital effects because those ugly puppets were terrifying enough all on their own.
I’m thrilled to see that my favorite character, the sassy one-eyed gremlin skull goat queen Aughra will be featured. She’s going to be voiced by puppeteer Donna Kimball.
I’ve spent every year since 1982 perfecting my Aughra squat. They better not fuck perfection.
