Phil Spector Once Adopted Twins Without Telling Ronnie Spector First

Everyone knows that Phil Spector is garbage human, and his ex-wife Ronnie Spector wrote about him being an awful husband in her 1990 memoir Be My Baby. There’s more about Phil being a shitty husband that wasn’t included in Be My Baby. According to Ronnie, she found herself the mother of twins after Phil was like, “Surprise babe, I got us some twins.

75-year-old Ronnie recently spoke to People to promote her holiday tour, and she told a little story from Christmas past. Ronnie was married to Phil Spector in 1968. In 1972, she escaped her Beverly Hills home-slash-prison barefoot, because Phil allegedly locked up all her shoes (in 1974, they officially divorced). A year after Ronnie married Phil, they adopted a son named Donté. On Christmas 1971, Phil surprised Ronnie with two more children, five-year-old twins Gary and Louis. Except Ronnie wasn’t expecting anymore kids.

“We were in the car and all of a sudden we pull up to the mansion and there’s a fountain and there are these twins running around – these blond-haired, blue-eyed twins. I’m saying, ‘What’s this?’ He said, ‘Merry Christmas!’ He never said, ‘Ronnie, what do you think we should do? Should we adopt twins?’ Nothing! Everything was a surprise, and no woman wants live children as a surprise.”

Ronnie says that was the moment her mother volunteered to help her leave Phil. After Ronnie left, Phil got custody of their kids, including their new twin sons Gary and Louis.

Phil’s gift of twins is majorly fucking weird, but it’s not even the creepiest gift he gave Ronnie. Ronnie wrote in her memoir that Phil once gave her a gold casket with a glass lid, with the promise that he’d kill her and “keep an eye on her” after she died. Normally I’d tell people unsure of what to get their loved one this Christmas to flip through the Sears catalogue, but that doesn’t exist anymore. Instead I’m going to tell them: “Okay, it’s easy – just think of what Phil Spector would give for Christmas, and then DON’T DO THAT.
