Lady Gaga Has Won Her First Major Award For “A Star Is Born”
In case you’ve been living in a hole miles away from civilization (which, in 2018 – I would not blame you), then you might not know that Lady Gaga is getting a lot of awards season buzz for her performance in A Star is Born. The Oscars are still three months away, which means we’ve got three months of awards that Lady Gaga could potentially win for her performance of brown-haired Lady Gaga Ally Maine. First up, a Best Actress award from The National Board of Review.
The National Board of Review released their chosen winners for 2018 today. Green Book, AKA the movie that Viggo Mortensen believed earned him a pass to say the n-word during a Q&A, was named Best Film of the year. Viggo himself was named Best Actor. A Star is Born took home three awards including Best Actress for Gaga. Human cowboy boot Sam Elliott was named Best Supporting Actor. And Bradley Cooper was named Best Director.
The NBR doesn’t have an official award ceremony, so there was no such luck in seeing any smug types pull a face as Lady Gaga approached the stage to accept her award. They will hold a gala presentation of the awards in January of 2019. NBR released the following statement regarding the winners today.
“We are proud to honor Green Book as our best film – it is a warm and heartfelt look at a remarkable friendship, brought to the screen at a moment where its story of love, compassion, and shared humanity deeply resonates. We are also thrilled to award Bradley Cooper as our best director – he is an extraordinary talent behind the camera, bringing a fresh and modern perspective, as well as superb craftsmanship and tremendous heart, to the classic story of A Star is Born.”
Excuse me, but only Bradley Cooper got a Star is Born shout-out? I can hear the Little Monsters now. They’re no doubt all of their angry emails to the NBR for failing to commemorate such a historic event by snubbing Gaga – the BEST Actress, after all! – out of that statement. I just hope none of them mix up NBR with NPR, because that will surely return a confusing response.”I’m sorry, but did we forget to send your friend Gaga a tote bag?”
