Armie Hammer Doesn’t Want To See People Mourning Stan Lee With Pics Of Themselves
Yesterday the news broke that comic book legend Stan Lee had passed, and many famous people paid their digital respects. I was expecting many tweets playing off his catchphrase “Excelsior!“, but I saw a lot more pictures go up of famous people posing with Stan himself. This didn’t bother me, but it bothered Armie Hammer.
Stan Lee was a major part of Marvel and made many cameos in Marvel movies, so it’s natural that many Marvel superheroes like Robert Downey Jr., Hugh Jackman, Tom Holland, Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldana, Mark Ruffalo, Jessica Alba, and Chris Pratt and the like would say goodbye with a picture. If you ever appeared in a Marvel movie and had a camera nearby when Stan Lee came to set, there was a 99% chance you posted that picture yesterday.
Thanks for everything Stan Lee! What a life, so well lived. I consider myself extraordinarily lucky to have gotten to meet you and to have played in the world you created.

Armie clearly had an itch to get Twitter bitter, because he decided to honor Stan Lee’s death with the following tweet:
So touched by all of the celebrities posting pictures of themselves with Stan Lee… no better way to commemorate an absolute legend than putting up a picture of yourself.

To be fair – I don’t think I remember seeing anyone post up a shameless solo selfie with the hashtags #OmgSoSad #Stanley. But then again, I haven’t checked Lindsay Lohan’s Instagram yet, and if it’s going to be anywhere…
One Twitter user was quick to point out that the people who had posted Stan Lee selfies were people who worked with him, to which Armie responded: “Me…too?“. Which is true: Armie voiced Strong Arm in the animated project Stan Lee’s Mighty 7. Armie could have stopped there, but he just kept going. When someone asked Armie what people are supposed to do when someone dies, he said: “If your answer is ‘post a selfie’ then I think we need a cultural revamp across the board.” If you haven’t gotten it yet, Armie really isn’t here for the mourning selfie.
If Stan impacted your life (ie. All of our lives) with his work, post his work that touched you the most. Posting a selfie makes his death about you and how cool you felt taking a picture with him.

Perhaps Armie would prefer the tribute that was given by Gwyneth Paltrow, which featured no Stan Lee selfie, but an RIP message tacked on to a post linking to a $615 dress. I guess we’ll have to wait to see what he tweets about that (I’m sure he’s composing something level-headed and calm as we speak).
I know Armie thinks he’s the Chief of the Grief Police, but all I’m getting here is a guy who might have another reason for being so mad. He said he’s worked with Stan Lee, but that was on a voice project that Stan probably never showed up in the studio for. So maybe Armie is just jealous that he didn’t have a picture of himself smiling next to Stan Lee, when it seems like everyone else on Earth does. Even Tara Reid got in on it.
You’re not mad at Tara, Armie, you’re mad at yourself!
