Pete Davidson’s Mention Of Ariana Grande On “SNL” Was Not Pre-Planned

According to Page Six, the kind words Pete Davidson spoke about Ariana Grande during SNL’s Weekend Update on Saturday weren’t planned. They were a last minute addition in response to hearing Ariana’s break up song “thank u, next”, which dropped about 30 minutes prior to airtime. And it makes sense; since Pete and Ariana’s relationship played out in the most public way possible, per their wishes, so it goes with their break up too.

Apparently, two of Ariana’s other learning experiences, Big Sean (don’t fuck with Naya Rivera’s sloppy seconds) and Ricky Alvarez (don’t lick the merchandise), were given a chance to listen to “tu,n” well before it was released, but Pete might not have been extended the same courtesy. Thankfully, Pete put on his big boy cargo shorts about it decided to play nice. Or maybe he did it to save face by making sure we knew that he knew about the song. Either way, at least he was kind.

He reportedly ran his few lines by showrunner Lorne Michaels, who gave him the OK. Davidson went on to describe Grande as a “wonderful, strong person” and wished her all the happiness in the world.

This is just how it has to be with these two I guess. Nothing is real until it’s public. Maybe because she’s an artist and definitely because she is 25-years young, instead of taking her pain and scribbling it out into a notebook for months, Ariana took her pain and scribbled it out into a notebook for like 20 minutes in between posting moody selfies on Instagram, and delivered a bop about her breakups. And because he’s a comedian and definitely because he is 24-years young, Pete processed his pain by cracking jokes about it in front of a live studio audience. And when Pete’s pain met Ariana’s pain, tweets were thrown! Maybe that’s why he got a late heads-up on “tu,n“.

Now that the two seem to have come to a place of peace, it’s time for Ariana to go back to moody selfies and Pete to touch up those roots and buy a pair of adult slacks. Like damn, son. Have some self respect!
