John Legend Talked About Kanye’s Trump Phase

You can’t blame a man for trying. Back when Kanye West first decided to ride the Trump train to Gonzoville (Population: do these slides make me look fat, Elevation: The Sunken Place), his friend John Legend tried talking some sense into him. And we all saw how that turned out after Kanye started tweeting John’s private text messages urging him to Be Best. Who knows if John’s patient hand-holding had any effect on Kanye’s recent decision to back away from politics but one thing’s for sure, he tried to warn him. In a recent Wall Street Journal cover story, John talked about Kanye’s Trump love (dangerous, naive), his mental health (how should he know), and why next time he sees him he can offer him a big fat “I told you so”.

John said that he understands why Kanye was/is attracted to Trump, and it’s for the dumbest reasons possible. But Kanye could not be dissuaded from publicly supporting him, despite John’s best efforts. John told WSJ:

“I understand what Kanye sees in Trump and I think it’s a reaction to his personality and his marketing panache and don’t-give-a-fuckness. But my point to him was that when you wear that hat, when you appear to be endorsing him, you’re endorsing his policies as well, all of his rhetoric and not just the parts you like. I think we had to talk about it, because we didn’t want people to be deceived into following his line of thought without considering the full ramifications.”

That’s like trying to tell Brian Fellow (just an enthusiastic young man with a 6th grade education) that goats can’t read minds, despite being “weird” with devil eyes. John also said that he wasn’t going to try to “arm-chair-diagnose” him like many have tried, instead he leaves it “to him and his doctor to discuss what’s going on in his brain”. John went on to add that he saw around a corner Kanye couldn’t in regards to possible results of his Trump support.

Clearly I disagreed with some of the things he was saying, and I was worried that his saying it might empower some of the wrong forces, might be really demoralizing for people who looked up to him and thought of him as a leader.

Damn, how thick is Kanye that even when his nice friend broke it the fuck down for him, did it take him until LAST WEEK to realize he’d been used, duped, and diddled by his conservative “friends”. At least Kanye now sees the light and has been staying in his wheelhouse. While John’s out here trying to get people to vote, EGOTing, recording new music, and changing diapers, Ye’s doin’ Ye.
