Pete Davidson Said Words About Ariana Grande On “Saturday Night Live” And She Released A Song About Her Exes

The breakup of tiny high pony Ariana Grande and human hoodie Pete Davidson might last slightly longer than their whirlwind, tattoo-emblazoned relationship. For this, they get a “huzzah!” because a breakup drama is always more interesting and less vomit-inducing than lovey luv times between two genitally-mesmerized 20-somethings. Ariana dropped a new breakup anthem about five seconds before the new episode of The Pete Davidson Is Single Now Show Saturday Night Live aired, and Pete addressed their split during the show’s “Weekend Update” segment. Uh, remember to vote? *sad-face*

To recap, in a recent SNL promo, Pete alluded to the engagement being off by proposing to singer Maggie Rogers. Ariana’s ponytail got in a snarl over this, and she tweeted a couple of slaps at him. One of them read “thank you, next” and it turns out it wasn’t just a “shoo, human hoodie, don’t bother me” banish-tweet. It was the title of her new song, where she mumble sings that she thought she’d end up with Big Sean, is thankful for Pete Davidson, and wish she could say thank you to her angel Mac Miller.

Last night, the SNL producers continued to let Pete talk about his relationship during the show and damn, this is supposed to be a comedy, innit? Pete was supposed to be bagging on the congressional races but managed to give us an update on how he’s doing. Some footage of him getting those 3,000 tattoos lasered off would have been funnier, but what are you going to do? (via ET)

Davidson kicked the segment off with a coy quip about the split, telling Jost that he never cared about politics or the congressional races, but “after I moved back in with my mom, i started paying attention to them.”

Yeah, there was more.

After weighing in on several of the candidates, Davidson wrapped up the brief segment by addressing fans who have been asking about the split.

“I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is, it’s nobody’s business, but sometimes things just don’t work and that’s OK,” Davidson said, earnestly. “She’s a wonderful, strong person and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.”

A source close to Pete also told ET that Pete is trying to heal via jokes.

A source close to Davidson told ET on Friday that the comic is just trying to move on, and comedy is how he does that. “He’s obviously hurt it didn’t work out but is doing his best to move on. Anyone would be hurt after an engagement was broken off,” the source said. “Pete joked about him and Ariana [when they were together]. So joking about breaking up and their relationship is not new.”

It might have been for an earlier sketch, but the silver hair and prison jumpsuit-looking outfit would indicate that maybe the jokes aren’t working for Pete. Maybe he’s trying to let her know that he’s in a prison of heartbreak since they broke up and this relationship has prematurely aged him. That must be it.
