Open Post: Hosted By Oscar Mayer Declaring That Hot Dogs Are Sandwiches

November 2, 2018 / Posted by:

I’ve seen a lot of rotten and just plain stupid marketing campaigns before (I’m looking at you IHOB), but Oscar Mayer has really taken the cake with their latest stunt. Oscar Mayer has launched a campaign in which they have declared that hot dogs are sandwiches, and are saying “fight me” in an effort to engage an exhausted public in a debate about it. No one curr, Oscar Mayer. We are tired.

According to Thrillist, OM has gone so far as to set up a hotline for people who disagree about hot dogs being sandwiches, as if anybody has the energy for that shit right now.

Before you begin drafting your hate mail, know that Oscar Mayer is fully aware that this is a controversial claim — so much so that they’ve created a hotline, open for just 24 hours, for passionate consumers to call in and attempt to change their minds. The hot dog hotline, which launched Thursday morning at 9am and will remain open for the next 24 hours, encourages folks to actually pick up the phone (there’s no texting involved) to voice their hot takes on the frankfurter deliberation.

And they’re kind of being dicks about it.

I barely have the energy to get out of bed in the mornings in #thesetryingtimes. If I’m almost ready to give up and let people make whiteface is a thing, I’m certainly not getting fired up enough to jump on team “not a sandwich” (though, if I did care, it’s fucking obvious it’s not a sandwich. Can it be made with a variety of different meats/cheeses? No, I don’t think so. And these trolls know it too, goddamn there goes my blood pressure again!).

They are really trying it though, and I guess some people have enough fire left after arguing with their co-workers, friends, family, and randos on the internet about what a basic human right is, to call and weigh in on what a fucking hot dog is.

I hate you for this, Oscar Mayer. I’ll be picking up some nice Hebrew Nationals next time I feel like having a weenie roast.
