Nicki Minaj Is Now Feuding With Steve Madden, The Shoe Company

October 31, 2018 / Posted by:

Nicki Minaj announced on Twitter this week that she’s choosing to focus on “positive things” and therefore is taking a break from dragging her arch nemesis Cardi B. Cardi agreed to such terms. Sadly, Nicki Minaj’s peacetime efforts were thwarted by her own inherent desire to poke the closest hornet’s nest. Now she’s engaged in battle with mall cobbler Steve Madden. In case you need a gauge for how messy this is, let’s just say: 50 Cent is also involved.

During Nicki and Cardi’s social media fight, one of the things that was constantly brought up was who turned down what deal or song appearance. Cardi claimed that she has passed on several gigs, like a deal with Diesel and a verse on the Little Mix song Woman Like Me. Both ended up going to Nicki. Nicki claimed that it was the other way around, and that she was the one getting offers and passing them off onto Cardi. Like a deal with Steve Madden shoes. Nicki claimed that she was approached several times to work with Steve Madden, which she passed on.

There is currently a section on Steve Madden’s website called Curated by Cardi, which makes it pretty obvious who ended up taking the job. But according to Steve Madden, Nicki is lying about passing on the gig. The following day after Nicki’s tweet, Steve Madden’s Twitter account attempted to expose her.

According to the world’s most prolific internet troll 50 Cent, Steve Madden is lying. Hot New Hip Hop reports that 50 took to Instagram with two posts (that have since been deleted) that defended Nicki from Steve Madden’s allegations. He wrote: “This guy is a liar, YOU LIAR YOU” in the first. In the second, he quoted a Vibe interview from 2015 in which the real Steve Madden (not the shoe brand) said:

“I was gonna do a collaboration with Nicki Minaj and we got into a fight the first minute we met. And then we patched it up. We were cool. We text each other, we became sort of buddies. We were thinking of doing something, and I would’ve, but I was with Iggy and I thought, ‘Coke and Pepsi.’ It was a mistake. I made a mistake and I wish that I could go back in time and work with Nicki instead of Iggy.”

Steve Madden is of course referencing the brand’s disastrous collaboration with Iggy Azalea, in which she called the shoes “disgusting.” Nicki fired back at Steve Madden in the most Nicki way possible (aka by telling Steve Madden to dine on a penis).

Iggy responded by tweeting (then later deleting) “This is facts” in response to Nicki’s side of things, to which Nicki was grateful.

And she thanked 50 for standing up for her.

It seems like the only evidence we need here is Steve Madden’s quote from his Vibe interview, but maybe there’s another Steve Madden deal that was in the works? Like one more recent than 2015, in which they really were trying to decide between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B? This is a mystery, and one that I’m not nearly qualified to even attempt to solve. But I am well-versed in drama, which means I will suggest that if Steve Madden wants to send a message back to Nicki, he should go Godfather with his next move. Nothing would be more terrifying than to wake up and discover one of those black elastic ’90s babysitter sandals in your bed.
