“Dr. Phil” Will Be On TV Until At Least 2023

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys watching an alleged charlatan walrus judge the hell out of the guests on his show while simultaneously doubting the “doctor” title at the front of his name, well then you’re in luck today! Dr. Phil McGraw has been hosting his therapy-adjacent daytime TV show Dr. Phil since 2002, and he has extended his contract with CBS until 2023.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Dr. Phil recently negotiated a new contract that would give him four more seasons of the show that is currently in its 17th season. That doesn’t mean that Dr. Phil will be done in 2023; it just means that that’s the time Dr. Phil could renegotiate a new contract.

He also has a bit of leverage at CBS. Not only does he have daytime TV’s highest-rated show, he’s the creator of The Doctors, another popular daytime show, as well as co-creator of Bull, which has just entered its third season. Dr. Phil had this to say about his continued horrific reign over daytime TV:

“I am so proud to extend my relationship with CBS…Our success is all about team. Carla Pennington, my unbelievably talented executive producer since day one, leads the most talented and committed team in television, delivering quality, meaningful content every day CBS Television Distribution for so many years. And perhaps the most important team member, my wife, Robin, who has been a part of the show since its inception and is such an invaluable touchstone for me personally.”

CBS issued the following statement yesterday about Dr. Phil’s future seasons.

“Dr. Phil is a titan of daytime television, setting the gold standard delivering clinically sound, common-sense, usable information to millions of homes every day. There has truly never been anyone else like him and we are thrilled to continue our longtime relationship.”

Clinically sound? Common sense? What show are they watching? This is a man whose show recently had something called SCAM WEEK. But I can’t be a complete hater. Having a guaranteed four more seasons on television means I hope we get a Where Are They Now? episode on his most famous guest, the Cash Me Ousside girl. I’d say having to sit down with her for another whole hour and listen to her call him a ho is fitting punishment for unleashing her on the world.
