Nicole Kidman Kinda Talked About Tom Cruise Again

I always assumed the first rule of being divorced from Tom Cruise is you don’t talk about being married to Tom Cruise, but maybe that only applies to the most recent wife? Sorry, Katie Holmes, but Nicole Kidman is a liberated falcon! Before you start envisioning a Nicole Kidman guest appearance on Leah Remini’s show wearing a Columbo trench coat outside the Church of Scientology HQ, calm down. Nicole mentioned last week how she thought being married to Tom kept her from being sexually harassed in Hollywood, and she kinda sorta doubled down on that this morning while promoting Boy Erased on the Today show.

Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie don’t let anything by them, but they did this morning on Today when they failed to ask Nicole how long her hairdresser spent shadowing Paula Deen around before crafting that wig she wears in the movie — probably because they assumed she’d tackle them to the floor before answering. Instead, they brought up Nicole’s talk about how Tom kept her cocooned out the hands of predatory Tinseltown pricks like Harvey Weinstein. In what may be the only bout of positive press someone from Scientology gets, Nicole kept up the gratitude:

“Because I was married at 23 years old, I wasn’t going to parties or I wasn’t going out a lot.I was pretty much at home. I had my first child at 25 and I was a married — I was in a family. So my sense of being in the world was — I was working, or I was at home.”

Savannah then asked Nicole if she thought people were afraid to mess with her since she was married to Top Gun, and Nicole kinda answered/kinda demurred:

“When I say ‘protection‘ there is almost like a barrier. A lot of women don’t have that. A lot of people in the world don’t have that. But I also don’t like discussing exes and all of that … I feel it’s almost disrespectful … to Tom and disrespectful to Keith. So I try to stay in the here and now.”

Nicole still says she only has limited power and that not everything she does gets made. Well, considering it took $33 million to film you in a perfume commercial, Nicole, that might just be Hollywood trying to pinch a penny!
