So let’s say you’re a little mongoose and you’ve got four lions surrounding your ass. You could either help them tie their napkins around their necks before lying down and begging them to make it quick as your spirit prepares to see Jesus and your body parts prepare to end up in the stomachs of lions. Or you could bust out a song from The Lion King with hopes that it’d make those lions sing too and they’d forget about eating you. Or you could say fuck it to that Circle of Life shit and go crazier than, well, than a mongoose who doesn’t want to be eaten. Today’s HSOTD went with the third option.

This video was shot by videographer Jerome Guillaumot at Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in 2011, and made its internet debut in 2014. It’s been making the rounds again, because a video of an enraged David taking on four Goliaths never gets old. Jerome rolled up on a scene where a pack of lionesses were trying to get themselves a little appetizer in the form of a mongoose, but the mongoose wasn’t about to let that happen and went Rikki-Tikki-Tavi on their asses.

Now, a mongoose will fight a King Cobra, so they’re like your crazy drunk cousin when someone looks at them funny at the club. Bitches ain’t afraid to fight. But who knows why those lionesses didn’t just end the mongoose with one quick bite? Maybe the mongoose had some shit on one of the lions, like proof that she’s cheating on her man, or worse, proof that one of the lionesses is really a vegan and the mongoose threatened to expose her if she didn’t get her pack off its ass. Whatever the case may be, the mongoose did not back down and ended up getting away.

That video is pretty much a documentary of me trying to take on depression, anxiety, self-doubt, and dread. Or me trying to take on bill collectors. Although, if that was a true documentary of me taking on bill collectors, it’d end with them eating me alive as I scream, “But the check IS good!”
