Michelle Williams Says Cash Is Why She’s Stinking Up Her Resume With A Comic Book Movie

Most people expect to see Michelle Williams exclusively in Oscar bait that leaves you feeling like an emotional freight train hit you. After showing up with Amy  Schumer in I Feel Pretty and now with MySpace’s favorite alum Tom Hardy in the comic book genre Venom, some, like me, wondered what she’s doing. While she initially blabbed on about how Tom was really a selling point in signing on, she gave us a huge dose of honesty by saying it sometimes just all comes down to how much she’s getting paid.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Michelle said she needed some lighthearted fare after doing serious movies like Manchester By The Sea and Blue Valentine. That’s why she turned to doing movies like I Feel Pretty and The Greatest Showman since nothing clears one’s head like Amy telling pussy jokes and singing show tunes with Hugh Jackman. When Venom came along, she said working with Tom was a major factor:

“The truth of it is, it came down to Tom Hardy. He’s so talented and so committed. He also makes unusual choices in a moment-to-moment, scene-by-scene kind of way. So I thought that he would be an exciting guy to get into the ring with. I thought it would be fun to play with him, and it really was.”

I’m going to take that as a polite way to say, “I wanted to ask him what it was like being the OG social media THOT.

Michelle goes on to say she wanted to extend her range as an actress and not just be what reminds people to pick up Kleenex when they’re at 7-11. Then, she finally cops up to another factor in picking movies:

“I wish there was always a clear, artistic line, but at a certain point, you have to square with the fact that you’re getting older, you live in the world and you have needs. In my twenties, I wasn’t cognizant of retirement, the housing market or college tuition; I just did whatever the fuck I wanted to do. Now, I sometimes do what I want to do, but I also have to make decisions that take care of my family.”

Bingo! Especially after Mark Wahlberg somehow convinced a studio he was worth 1,500 times as much as Michelle to reshoot All The Money In The World, there is NOTHING wrong about just being like,  “#TimesUp, boys. Mama wants to get paid.” Michelle, just say Louis Vuitton endorsements don’t pay like the used to, and you need that Marvel cash to pay for renovating your mansion, or putting your daughter through school, or even just a nice vacation to Bali. I’ll respect that more than any of your Oscar-nominated performances!

Here’s more of Michelle, Tom, and the rest of the cast of Venom at the Westwood, CA premiere last night.
