Hillary Clinton Made A Cameo Appearance In The “Murphy Brown” Revival
Reboot/revival/whatever fever is alive and well, and yesterday Murphy Brown stepped up to plate. Candice Bergen can honestly do no wrong in my book, but after a day of everyone watching the Supreme Court hearing of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and a screaming Brett Kavanaugh, people may have needed a break from political shit. The Murphy Brown reboot didn’t get the best of ratings considering it’s on CBS and those shows still hit 1997-style ratings since it’s the nursing home network of choice, but they did at least get Hillary “Hilary” Clinton in a cameo where she tried to get a job as Murphy’s secretary.
Variety says the Murphy-hates-her-secretaries schtick still holds in the reboot, and they started with the mother of all secretaries by having Hillary throw her hat into the ring to push paper for the fictional liberal lioness. It’s a little hokey with Murphy marveling Hilary looks just like Hillary and Hilary/Hillary saying shit like “For four years I was the secretary…of a very large organization” and “I do have some experience with emails.” See for yourself:
Murphy passed on Hilary/Hillary by saying she was impressive and even “a little over-qualified” and said she needed more time to think. She then hired a Cheeto-haired demagogue who built a wall from reams of paper in the supply closet between the executive level and the smelly interns. I’m only kidding, but Hilary did toss her a business card that was Hilary@you-could-have-had-me.com.
Entertainment Weekly says Murphy ratings weren’t exactly the best, as it got 7.4 million viewers compared to Will & Grace’s 10 million and Roseanne’s 18 million. That being said, it isn’t like Roseanne Barr was able to stick around to boast about that for long! Most tricks think it might have to do with the reboot not getting the best of reviews from critics while others think the hearings yesterday kept the Murphy crowd away since they were too busy watching Rachel Maddow.
While the halls of CBS are no longer haunted by Les Moonves, they seem to be where Hillary is perching this fall because she’s also going to be on the fifth season premiere of Madam Secretary. Then, she’ll be playing a drunk Ole Miss sorority sister in the first five minutes of NCIS: New Orleans, AND she’ll be playing the tambourine in the band for The Late Show. I’m only kidding, but CBS really should have milked her for more appearances. I voted for her, but it’s not like she’s doing anything else!
