Here Are The Actresses Being Considered For The “Birds Of Prey” Movie
The DC Extended Universe is in a fever to put out as many film adaptions of their properties as possible. Why? Well, because the layperson probably doesn’t know that superheroes come from more than one company and could mistakenly buy a ticket for a DC movie that he thought was a Marvel one. He’s going to go in thinking Spider-Man might make a cameo or there’s actually a good script involved but it will be too late and he’s already spent the money! DC’s upcoming Birds of Prey movie’s got a director (Cathy Yan, the first Asian female director to helm a superhero movie) and Deadline has revealed which actresses are in the running to star.
To recap, the movie will find the execrable Suicide Squad movie’s Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie who is also a producer on the project) teaming with other Gotham City super-ladies.
Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Atomic Blonde), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane), How I Met Your Mother’s Cristin Milioti, and Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) are all in the running to play violent vigilante Huntress. In the comic book version, she tends to maim and/or kill the villains. Hopefully she’ll kill every character from Suicide Squad.
Black Canary might be played by either Belle‘s Gugu Mbatha-Raw or Underground actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell. Janelle Monae is supposedly in the mix too, but it’s not known if she screen-tested for the role. The character is a blonde white lady in the comics, so expect a dry run of the nerd rage that will later on bubble and explode into incel shrapnel if they cast Michael B. Jordan as the new Superman as rumored.
One Day At A Time’s Justina Machado and Vida‘s Roberta Colindrez are being considered for the role of openly gay Gotham City Police detective Renee Montoya. Rita Moreno must have been too busy reminiscing about fucking Brando and Elvis to have auditioned for the part of the Latina hero.
There’s no mention about who’s going to play Cassandra Cain (but sources say the character will be a 12-year-old Asian girl) or the film’s villain, Black Mask. I’m guessing that for the role of Cassandra Cain, DC is going to try to snag a Marvel star by casting 12-year-old Asian actress Scarlett Johansson.
