A Book Claims Duchess Camilla Tried To Break Up Prince William And Duchess Kate

I’m a big fan of The Crown, and so I can’t wait for season three to find out what The Queen really thought of 1970s Duchess Camilla when she saw her with Prince Charles. But until I get that, I can hold myself over with this. It’s a generation younger, but there’s just as many snooty feelings involved.

The Mirror must have just gotten around to reading that copy of Game of Crowns: Elizabeth, Camilla, Kate, and the Throne that they’ve had sitting on the back of the loo since 2016. Because they’ve recently discovered a rather juicy passage in it featuring an alleged plot cooked up by Duchess Camilla to split up Prince William and Duchess Kate.

According to Game of Crowns author Christopher Andersen, Camilla reportedly thought Kate was “pretty, but rather dim,” and disapproved of her non-royal background. Just for reference, Camilla’s royal lineage is that her mother was the daughter of a Baron, and her great-grandmother was one of King Edward VII’s side-pieces. In standard “Who asked you??” form, Camilla thought Kate was “too lowly” to marry Prince William, because Kate didn’t come with a title, other than the unofficial ones, like Lady Shiny Hair. Camilla was so set against Kate, that she allegedly went to Prince Charles and asked him to convince Prince William to dump her.

Camilla’s hate-on for Kate might have been driven by an obsession with royal connections, or just plain ol’ jealousy. According to the book, Camilla was afraid Prince William and Kate were getting too popular, and were overshadowing Camilla and Prince Charles. After six years of dating, William and Kate did decide to take a break, and the book alleges that Camilla was right there offering her two tuppence on the matter and claiming it was a “wise” decision.

Duchess Camilla and Duchess Kate get along now, but it’s not known when they became friends. My guess is it happened after William and Kate got married in 2011, if only to explain why flower girl Grace van Cutsem was famously seen covering her ears.

She wasn’t protecting her ears from the noise from the crowd; she was trying to block out the sound of Camilla angrily grinding down her teeth.

And here’s Prince William at the launch of a mental health initiative in Bristol earlier today.
