Karen Wright, the breakout star of the new season of The Great British Bake Off!
As the world burns down, you can find Karen calmly eating some chips (that’s American for “crisps“)…
The first episode of the new season of The Great British Bake Off splattered onto screens on Tuesday night, and I’m told that many viewers instantly wrapped their hearts around a contestant named Karen. Since I live in a barbaric land where we don’t get the new episode of GBBO right away, I didn’t see it, but apparently Karen Wright whipped up a humongous dollop of charm that everyone ate up.
Karen is apparently the oldest contestant, and said she went into the show completely fuck-free:
“My daughters encouraged me to [enter Bake Off], and I was approaching 60 and I found it really liberating to do something like this. As you get older you feel less inhibited, and think does it matter if you make a fool of yourself.”
Karen brought that fuck-free attitude during a challenge on the first episode. The challenge was for the bakers to bake up some regional biscuits with their own spin added to it. Karen finished up her Yorkshire Perkin Biscuits before the time was up, and instead of helping her fellow bakers finish up, she casually snacked on some chips as everyone else’s heads slowly exploded as they tried to complete the challenge.

We can all learn something from Karen. On Friday, when all of your co-workers are trying to finish up work so they can get out early for the holiday weekend, just sit back in your chair and nibble on some Ruffles while basking in the messiness of everyone losing their minds. When the apocalypse finally happens, I, for one, hope that I’m next to Karen, slowly eating some crisps right before the Four Horsemen trample over us.
