Kanye West Tried To Clarify His “Slavery Was A Choice” Comment

Kanye West is just full of explanations lately. First he tried (and failed) to explain why he was caught wearing too-small slip-on sandals to 2 Chainz’s wedding earlier this month. Now Kanye’s trying to explain what he meant when he said slavery was “a choice.” You’ll be shocked to learn that he made about as much sense talking about slavery as he did talking about his sandals.

It was almost four months ago that Kanye told TMZ that 400 years of slavery felt like a choice, and that black and white people are one race (the human race). He’s had almost four months to come up with a decent reason for why something so truly stupid came out of his mouth. Variety says he had an opportunity for redemption this morning during a radio show appearance on Chicago’s 107.5 WGCI. Kanye came through with about half a thought (not to be confused with the full THOT he’s got at home).

Kanye told listeners that he waited a long time to talk about the slavery comments because he didn’t want to “over-intellectualize.” Not something we’re worried about Kanye, but do go on. Kanye then explained it came from a place of his own mental health struggles, and apologized to those who were offended.

“This is something about the fact that it hurt people’s feelings and the way that I presented that piece of information. I could present in a way more calm way, but I was ramped up. And I apologize. That happens sometimes when people are – I’m not blaming mental health, but I’m explaining mental health.

I don’t know if I properly apologized for how the slavery comment made people feel. I’m sorry for the one-two effect of the MAGA hat into the slave comment, and I’m sorry for people that felt let down by that moment.”

It sounds like Kanye might’ve apologized for the MAGA hat, but it also sounds kind like he’s just apologizing for owning a MAGA hat while making backwards comments about slavery. Personally, I’m inclined to believe that MAGA hat has some kind of curse on it. Kind of like the magic in Frosty the Snowman’s hat, but in reverse. Actually, if someone has a lead on a magic hat like Frosty’s, please replace Kanye’s MAGA hat with it, because that MAGA hat clearly isn’t working for him.
