Open Post: Hosted By Winona Ryder And Keanu Reeves’ Decades Long Mutual Crush
I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but my cynical heart has finally found its kryptonite. Within minutes of learning that Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves would be starring in the romantic comedy Destination Wedding, my play cousin texted me and was like, “we’re taking the day off of work to see this right?”, to which I responded, “duh”. There is just something so right about those two together. So yeah, I’m buying whatever it is they’re selling. Which, according to an Entertainment Tonight interview, is that they’ve secretly been harboring crushes on each other since the first day they met. Gah!
First they teased us with the fantasy that they were secretly (not on purpose) married on the set of Dracula, and now they’re teasing us with the possibility that their love for each other is real and that it has always been a mathematical constant, destined to come to fruition. Destination Wedding is a rom-com, so of course I get it that they are milking this for the press (Winona is probably still with same boyfriend she’s had for a years), but there is something genuinely disarming about the way she and Keanu interact. According to The Huffington Post:
The ship-worthy duo spoke to Entertainment Tonight on Monday and were asked if they remembered the first time they met. Both remembered specifics, such as the year (“’87, ’88,” Reeves recalled) and the place (“we presented an award at the Independent Spirit Awards back when it was in a room with folding chairs,” Ryder said).

Winona sure picked the wrong brooding brunette to get boo’d up with, didn’t she? Johnny Depp probably would have only complimented her access to the best acid, thanks to old Uncle Leary. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Winona. She was a NorCal legend when she was coming up, there was even a local punk band called the The Winona Riders that used to play my home town. And Keanu’s enigmatic, quiet brooding has been a solid panty dropper since day one. They’re just so damn cute together! Could if be that even beautiful, rich, famous people can be surprised by love?
