Asia Argento Is Accused Of Paying Off An Actor Who Claims She Sexually Assaulted Him When He Was 17

One of the many (many feels like an understatement) women who came forward last fall with allegations against Harvey Weinstein was actress Asia Argento. She was also a very outspoken supporter of the #MeToo movement. However, because the universe likes to keep things complicated for us humans, it turns out Asia has been accused of sexual assault herself.

The New York Times reported that not long after Asia went public with her accusations against Harvey Weinstein (which involved the allegation that he forcibly performed oral sex on her in his hotel room in France), she quietly paid off a male accuser to the tune of $380,000.

A young musician and former child actor named Jimmy Bennett accused Asia of sexually assaulting him in a hotel room in California two months after he turned 17. Asia would have been 37 at the time (Asia is 42 now, which would place this alleged incident somewhere around 2013). Jimmy and Asia worked together; he once played her son in the 2004 film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things. Jimmy would have been about 8 years old at the time.

According to The Times, an anonymous source brought the information to them including a selfie featuring Jimmy and Asian in bed together. People familiar with the situation say that the selfie is authentic, and was actually part of the settlement. Jimmy had reportedly agreed to hand over the photo to Asia in exchange for the hush money. How that anonymous source got a hold of said picture, I’m not sure. But because this story could use even a shred of a joke, let’s pretend it was found by an aspiring journalist raccoon under a rotting banana peel in Asia’s trash.

The Times did a little research and they discovered that the final details of the deal were completed in April. Before that, Jimmy had allegedly asked for $3.5 million in damages for emotional distress and lost wages (he reportedly claimed that he was so traumatized from the experience, he was unable to work like he had prior to 2013).

Asia and Jimmy seemed to keep in touch through Instagram and Twitter up until around May 2013. His Twitter account is no longer active.

Neither Asia nor Jimmy had any comment regarding this situation (Jimmy’s lawyer would only say that his client would continue to focus on his music). But Asia’s good friend and fellow #MeToo fighter Rose McGowan did. Rose is waiting for more facts first before she condemns her friend.

Rose McGowan has practically gone almost broke trying to fight against sexual abusers. So I am a little surprised that she’s now pulling some both-sides-of-the-story nonsense. I don’t know what kind of excuse she’ll accept from Asia. But Rose might want to get her follow-up statement ready so she can distance herself from this mess. “Asia? Who? Like the continent? Sorry, I don’t really know her.
