Open Post: Hosted By The Woman Who Thought Keith Urban Was Broke And Paid For His Snacks

When Keith Urban was part-judge, part-referee during the delightful Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey season of American Idol, his scruffy appearance did seem a little like the guy begging for spare change outside the 7-11 at the end of my block compared to the wig-and-sequin extravaganza elsewhere at that judging desk. Well, fast forward several years, and a Good Samaritan in New Jersey must still think this because she mistook Keith for a drifter and paid for his food at a WaWa – and they say good manners only exist in the South!

Page Six says Ruth Reed, a retired teacher, has a three-year tradition of buying food for people in need at the convenience store, and that happened to include Keith the other night at a WaWa in Medford, New Jersey. Keith’s card wasn’t working, so he asked the woman he was with for cash. Ruth stepped up to help pay for his snacks, and he eventually copped to being Keith, she said:

“I didn’t know it was Keith Urban. I didn’t think he had enough money to pay for his things so I said I would pay for it.”

If he hadn’t shampooed those luscious Aussie locks, he could have easily looked just like some extra for a Woodstock movie, so I hear ya, Ruth! The best is how she transformed from sweet ex-teacher into a real detective. HuffPost says that when she realized it was Keith and some woman, she got “snippy,” which Ruth admits:

“I didn’t believe him.I asked where Nicole [Kidman] was and who was the lady [he was with]. He told me it was his sister.”

Ha! One of Ruth’s former students divulged more:

Talk about sisterhood! Ruth was looking out for Nicole when I would have just been like, “Your wife just cleared house at the Emmys, and your ass needs me to pay for a bag of Bugles? Gimme that $2 back!
