Nicki Minaj’s Album Will Now Be Released On The Same Day As Ariana Grande’s Album

It’s been four years since Nicki Minaj last released an album (The Pinkprint). Her latest album, Queen, was scheduled to be released June 15th, but it got delayed. Those who side-eyed her choice to collaborate with Rainbow Brite’s creep cousin 6ix9ine would probably be ok if the album stayed buried forever. But there is an album released date finally in sight and it happens to fall on the exact same day as the release of Ariana Grande’s new album Sweetener.

Nicki’s album was scheduled for August 10th, but yesterday she announced in an Instagram Live video that fans will have to wait a week longer. There were obviously some mathletes in the audience, because E! News points out that someone figured out August 17th was the release date for Sweetener.

Nicki and Ariana have collaborated before, most recently on Nicki’s song Bed. But some people got suspicious and wondered if this was Nicki’s way of being shady and stealing the attention off Ariana’s big day. Ariana pulled herself away from her fiancé long enough to chime in by wishing a happy album release month to herself, Nicki, and Troye Sivan, whose album Bloom is out on August 31st.

Ariana also tweeted that she and Nicki laughed at the coincidence, then Nicki let everyone know that it’s all good.

For anyone who still thought that Nicki and Ariana might be secretly pulling each others XL ponytails behind the scenes, Ariana cleared the air again:

Despite being released on the same day, there obviously isn’t any competition between the two. Ariana records songs for people who appreciate mumbling to a club beat, and Nicki records songs for people who drive like their car is about to explode from the bass reverberations. The only real drama to be found in this situation seems to be the sample issue. E! says that Nicki’s album is being pushed back because she sampled Tracy Chapman in one of Queen’s songs. Nicki Instagrammed a text conversation sent to Tracy by someone on Nicki’s team, asking Tracy to sign off on the sample. The issue is that apparently no one can find Tracy Chapman for a sign-off to happen.

So where is Tracy Chapman? Tracy, say something, or forever hold your peace about being sampled in a song about a big fat ass on an equally fat dick. It’s not known what song Nicki sampled. But because it’s Nicki, my gut tells me it’s a sample of Fast Car in a rap where it’s heavily implied Nicki’s not actually talking about a gear shift.
