Demi Lovato Had Reportedly Not Been Sober For A While

Yesterday Demi Lovato was taken to the hospital for a suspected drug overdose. Some were shocked, but according to sources, those close to Demi were not as surprised and were bracing themselves for this.

When Demi dropped her single “Sober” last month and confessed she had fallen off the wagon, it seemed as though her broken sobriety was a recent development. One source tells People that Demi “has not been sober for quite some time” and that she “had no interest in being sober.” The source adds that Demi recently split with her life coach named Matt Bayer, who helped keep her on the sober. Without Matt, Demi thought she could slowly tip-toe back into various no-no substances.

“The disease Demi has is a vicious liar and it’s been telling her for some time that she can use just a little, just one or two drinks, nothing too serious, nothing bad will happen, she can keep it under control. And when she could, for a few months, it seemed like vindication to her, proof that she could keep it under control.”

Another source claims that it’s not just the absence of her life coach that pushed Demi back into her old habits, and reiterates that shit wasn’t good for a while. The source says:

“Things have been a total mess for months. She and her team severed ties, and they played a large part in getting her sober years ago. She hasn’t been in a good place.”

Sources tell TMZ much of the same: that Demi has been in the danger zone for weeks now, and that her friends could see something bad was about to happen.

As for what happened before Demi’s alleged overdose, TMZ says that Demi and some friends were celebrating the birthday of one of her backup dancers at a restaurant/bar on Monday night. They then moved the party to Demi’s house. When first responders arrived, most party guests had left and there was just Demi and members of her team. Demi’s team didn’t provide any info to paramedics about the drug or drugs Demi was using. One source tells UsWeekly that Demi was saved by a friend who kept a stash of Narcan, the drug used to reverse the effects of a narcotic overdose. The friend knew Demi was using drugs again, and used the Narcan before calling 911.

Despite the repeated mentions of Narcan (not the publicity they want, I’m sure), we still don’t exactly know what caused Demi’s overdose. It was previously reported by TMZ, who broke the news, that it was heroin; TMZ has since taken that back. A rep for Demi released the following statement yesterday regarding her condition, and they wouldn’t say what put her in the hospital, only that there’s been some incorrect information going around. But it sounds like Demi is doing much better.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”

Because you can’t really talk about Demi without also hearing about her sleazy ex Wilmer Valderrama, here’s how he’s handling things. A source tells UsWeekly that Wilmer is “completely devastated” by Demi’s hospitalization, and that while Demi was open and honest about her relapse, Wilmer was not aware that her relationship with booze and drugs had gotten so bad.

The source adds that it was just a matter of timing and syncing up their schedules to make their romance work. Is that what Demi’s rep meant by there being a whole lot of incorrect information out there? Because I’m sure having Wilmer slink back into her life is probably item no. 1 on the list of things Demi should avoid for a successful recovery. Hell, I bet it’s even printed somewhere on standard medical intake forms. “Have you ever had contact with Wilmer Valderrama? 9 out of 10 doctors recommend you try to avoid that in the future.
