Pull up a chair by the fireside, it’s time for Kathy Griffin to regale us with another dramatic story from her Big Book of Famous People Feuds. She’ll just flip past the chapters titled Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, Demi Lovato, Kevin Hart, and the Secret Service, all the way to the one marked Ellen DeGeneres. If there was even the slightest chance Ellen might bury the hatchet and dance with Kathy on her show, it’s definitely dropped down to 0% now.
This all started back in 2016 after the release of Kathy’s second book, Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index, in which she implied a certain nice blonde TV host was mean. Not long after, Kathy revealed she was talking about Ellen. Kathy went on to say that she thought Ellen was a bitch to both herself and the late Joan Rivers. Variety says that Kathy got into it again during a show in Los Angeles on Thursday.
According to Kathy, she and Joan discussed their mutual hatred of Ellen shortly before Joan’s death in 2014. Both bonded over the observance that Ellen shunned them for being “vulgar” and “not funny.” When Joan passed, Kathy decided to reach out to Ellen and kindly ask her to drop the hate for Joan and deliver a tribute to a female comedy legend.
“I just called her and I just said, ‘Look, woman to woman, comic to comic, I think you need to let go of your hatred for Joan Rivers. She’’ passed away, just do a fucking tribute, be cool.”
Kathy claims that Ellen responded: “There’s a difference between mean and funny,” and that Joan was the first one. Kathy says she was extremely pissed off and called Ellen a “fucking untalented hack.” The feud attempted to get resolved by Kathy, who texted Ellen a few days later and joked that their fight was so Dynasty, and that they should recreate Alexis and Krystle’s pond fight, with Kathy playing Alexis and Ellen as Krystle.
Ellen never texted back. Possibly because Ellen, allegedly having the petty grudge-holding heart that she has, wanted Alexis or nothing. Or maybe because she was still extremely burned by that crack about her being an untalented hack. And I don’t blame her! Untalented? Kathy, I’ll have you know it takes a lot of talent to look like you give even half a shit about whatever which Kardashian is visiting that day.
