Bristol Palin Is Getting $250,000 To Do “Teen Mom OG”
Alaskan spawning salmon Bristol Palin is joining the cast of MTV’s Teen Mom OG for their upcoming eighth season. Despite Bristol not being a teen (she’s 27) or an original member of the 16 and Pregnant/Teen Mom cast, she’ll be front and center on MTV’s long-running reality show about the lives and loves of surly young women, their dumb and/or beleaguered sperm donors, and their unfortunate children. And she’s being paid $250K for the privilege! That’s a lot of bail money to cover the aftermath of the Palin family’s next drunk-ass snowmobile hoedown.
US Weekly reports that, according to a source, Bristol is making a pretty good salary for someone whose primary skillset revolves around her fertility and being the daughter of Senator John McCain’s biggest regret since being captured by the Viet Cong.
Palin, 27, who confirmed she’d be joining the cast on Friday, July 20, will be earning $250,000 for the first season with an option for a second and third year, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. She will also receive an additional $50,000 for each option exercised.
“She could be making $350,000 in three years,” the insider adds.
MTV must have some big Palin family fans in their casting department, because Bristol is sort of a gamble. Her last attempt at a reality TV career that didn’t involve dancing in spangly dresses didn’t do so well. Here’s the lowdown on 2012’s Bristol Palin: Life’s A Tripp which aired on Lifetime (via Wikipedia).
The pilot episode of Palin’s series had an estimated 726,000 viewers, with a rating of 0.2 percent among adults aged 18–49. After performing even worse the second week, Lifetime decided to move the show from its original primetime slot, at 10:00 p.m., to an hour later, and to show repeats of the series Dance Moms at 10:00 p.m.
Bristol’s casting is being frowned upon publicly by former Teen Mom 2 cast member David Eason. He’s Jenelle Evans‘ husband who got booted from the show for his homophobic tweets. So his judgment is questionable, but maybe not on this matter.
“I know MTV is comprised of hypocrites but how do you fire me and hire Bristol Palin after all of her homophobic and racist remarks?” he wrote.
He noted in his caption that while he has nothing against Palin personally, he has “everything against MTV, which he called “liberals trying to confuse, persuade, and penalize.”
Bristol did get in a verbal confrontation in 2011 while filming her reality show in which she responded with a shady accusation of gay when an angry guy criticized her mom. She’s also known for her anti-stance on same-sex marriage.
Hopefully, Bristol wasn’t actually cast on this show and this is just a really elaborate attempt on Sacha Baron Cohen‘s part to punk her like he did her nauseating mother.
