Last week, Guy Pearce said something more interesting than Guy Pearce announcing he found his Felicia Jollygoodfellow costumes and will try them on for a Facebook live video. Guy recently claimed during an Australian interview that he had a “difficult time” filming L.A. Confidential with alleged serial creeper Kevin Spacey, and that Kevin was a “handsy guy.” Guy also implied his experience wasn’t nearly as bad as some others, because he “was 29 and not 14.” Guy has more to say on that, and it’s that he wished he hadn’t said anything.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Guy spoke to Fairfax Media (owner of TSMH) a few days ago and told them he wanted to clarify the comments he made about Kevin. He says he was uncomfortable around Kevin, but that Kevin definitely didn’t sexually assault him. And it sounds like Guy wished he’d just kept it all in the past.
“I very much understand that it’s too sensitive a topic to be brushed off. I addressed and handled the situation when it took place, hence my regret at making it public now.”
Of course, Guy isn’t the first of Kevin’s former co-stars to speak up. Last year, Gabriel Byrne claimed that production on The Usual Suspects had to be shut down after Kevin was accused of “inappropriate sexual behavior.”
Maybe Guy was a little caught off guard when he was originally asked about Kevin. I would be too if I was suddenly asked to talk about a co-worker from 1997. So I don’t think anyone would accuse Guy of brushing it off when he referred to Kevin as “handsy.” And now that we know Kevin didn’t pull anything serious on Guy, I can’t help but wonder what Kevin did. I’ll be honest, that handsy comment made me immediately picture Creepy No-Boundaries Kevin slinking up behind Guy on set, rubbing his shoulders, and whispered, “I’d certainly make passes at guys in period-specific glasses.”
