Terry Crews spoke about his own #MeToo experience back in October when he alleged WME agent Adam Venit grabbed his crotch at a party in 2016. While a lot of people were admiring Terry for his bravery, there were some who weren’t happy he opened his mouth at all. And according to Terry, he’s now being punished for it.
Terry is currently suing Adam Venit and WME for assault, battery, sexual battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, breach of fiduciary duty, negligence and negligent retention and supervision. Yesterday, Terry told his story again as he testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of the proposed Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights (testimony that was apparently haha-funny to an asshole like 50 Cent). Here’s Terry’s opening statement:
According to Deadline, Terry later confessed that he’s faced retaliation for speaking out Avi Lerner, producer of The Expendables franchise, allegedly called Terry’s agent and warned of “trouble” unless he withdrew his civil suit against Adam Venit. Avi Lerner himself has also recently been accused of sexual misconduct. When Terry refused to drop the suit, he claims he found himself without a role in the upcoming The Expendables 4. Terry has played the character Hale Caesar in the first three movies. Terry says he has to take a stand, even if it means he’s out of work.
“This same producer is under his own…investigation. Abusers protect abusers – and this is one thing I had to decide, whether I was going to draw the line on. Am I going to be a part of this or am I gonna take a stand, and there are projects I had to turn down.”
Terry added that he had no plans to ever talk about or report what allegedly happened to him, mostly because he thought he’d be “laughed out of” the police station. He was also afraid of being blacklisted from Hollywood or that his career might suffer. But he decided to speak up upon being inspired and empowered by everyone else coming forward with their stories.
It’s also worth noting that Sylvester Stallone, star of The Expendables, is also currently being investigated for sexual assault. Oh, and there’s also Mel Gibson, who has his own problematic history with women. Dare I say Terry Crews is better off not having anything to do with that mess? My suggestion is he teams up with his old Old Spice buddies, Isaiah Mustafa and the other one, and form their own elite super group. How do I know they’re better, faster, and stronger? Well, not once have I seen one of them slip while filming in the tub, and they probably all smell better, too.
