Serena Williams Might Retire From Tennis If She Gets Pregnant Again
Serena Williams is called the G.O.A.T. for a reason, and it wouldn’t shock me at all to see her fifty years from now beating someone half her age on the court from the comfort of her Jazzy scooter. That might not happen, and not because scooters will be replaced in the future by a robot called the GRANN-E that carries the elderly around. Serena revealed to InStyle that she gets pregnant again, there’s a possibility she’ll retire from tennis.
Eleven months ago, Serena gave birth to Olympia, her first child with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. InStyle asked Serena if she and Alexis would be having more kids. The answer was yes, they wanted to. She told InStyle that you’d definitely see her waddling around with a swollen middle if she wasn’t smacking balls around.
“If I weren’t working, I’d already be pregnant. I hear everyone’s different, but I had a really easy pregnancy until the birth.”
Serena says everything after the pregnancy was rough. She had to undergo an emergency C-section, after which she suffered a pulmonary embolism and a blood clot in an artery located in her lungs, which required immediate surgery and six weeks of bed rest. Once she returned to tennis earlier this year, she had to ease back into it. She currently plays in a catsuit that helps prevent her postpartum body against blood clots. So basically, Serena hasn’t had the easiest time on the court after having her baby. Serena loves tennis, but she also loves being a mom. The only thing is, she’s not crazy about doing the two at the same time.
“I don’t know if I want to play if I have another baby…I need to talk to Alexis. We need a plan.”
When asked who she thinks is a badass, Serena answered Kate Middleton, because Kate was “officially No. 1” for being back at work in front of the hospital while her uterus was probably still wondering where the baby went.
I’d say that Serena retiring is great news for any other woman tennis player, but that’s not completely true. With two babies, Serena can train them to be a tennis doubles powerhouse. Well, unless both of those babies inherit more DNA from their daddy than their mommy. In which case, the only competition Serena will be supervising is one where her kids see whose meme can get more upvotes.
