Sam Smith Has Been Accused Of Fat Shaming A Woman At Breakfast

Some places are sacred food havens. The buffet, for example – no one gets judged at a buffet. Or breakfast. The first meal of the day should be a joyus one, where you eat as many carbs and syrups as possible without the faintest hint of side-eye from someone eating yogurt and granola. The only problem is here is that a woman claims that she was publicly fat shamed on social media by a fellow diner, who just so happened to be Sam Smith.

GayStarNews says that Sam and his boyfriend Brandon Flynn had breakfast at Millie’s Cafe in Los Angeles last Sunday. Sam whipped out his phone, but unlike 99% of people with their phones out when their meal arrived, he wasn’t about to take a picture of his breakfast and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #yum. Sam filmed an Instagram Story of a fellow diner’s breakfast plate of french toast with the caption, “good going.

Sam quickly yanked the clip down after the woman, a British tourist named Lauren Brooks, identified the waffles were hers and thought he was being mean. Lauren spoke to The Daily Star and she was pissed. According to Lauren, Sam shamed her for eating so much.

“It seems as if he is fat-shaming me for having such a big breakfast. He has 9.5 million followers – and anyone who knew me and followed him would recognize me right away. Imagine if I was a girl who was even slightly insecure about her weight. To have a celeb mock her for eating a meal would be horrendous.”

A spokesperson for Sam said that Sam wasn’t fat-shaming Lauren and meant no offense. He was just jealous of her “fabulous” waffles.

Sam used to be bigger in the body, so some think he’s in no position to make fun of anyone who chooses to go hard on a breakfast menu. Maybe I should re-examine my own eating habits, but Lauren’s waffles didn’t even look like that much food? Personally, I want to believe Sam was jealous. Sam is famous, and famous people are usually on weird healthy diets. I’m sure he just wanted to capture the moment so he could relive it later on when his assistant hands him his 3pm lemon slice.
