“Black Panther” Dominated The MTV Movie & TV Awards

Mostly, the MTV Movie & TV Awards will give their Movie of the Year award to something shitty but popular (example: the Twilight saga sweeping the category from the years 2009 to 2012). But sometimes the stars align and MTV is able to give the award to a movie that is both good and popular, and this year was one of those years. Black Panther ended up taking home a bunch of awards.

The current record holder for the title of highest-grossing superhero movie of all time grabbed the awards for Movie of the Year, while Black Panther himself Chadwick Boseman took home Best Performance in a Movie and Best Hero. That last award won’t be sitting with the others in Chadwick’s trophy case at home. Chadwick chose to give his Best Hero award to real-life hero James Shaw Jr., the man responsible for disarming the Waffle House shooter back in April.

Host Tiffany Haddish also won an award – Best Comedic Performance for Girls Trip – and she showed up halfway through the show in the Alexander McQueen dress she always wears. That poor Alexander McQueen dress; I bet it got itself all cleaned up and everything, only to discover in the dressing room that it was getting bumped from the monologue by one of Cardi B’s old dresses.

Roseanne Barr also took two hits last night. Once during the presentation of Best Hero, when presenter Olivia Munn gave a shout-out to real life heroes like “that guy who fired Roseanne.” Then a second time by Michael B. Jordan when he accepted the award for Best Villain, and said: “I’m shocked that I won this award for Best Villain; I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag.

Finally, goofy doofus with muscles Chris Pratt won the Generation Award. The award wasn’t presented by last year’s recipient, the Fast and the Furious franchise (I’m not kidding, look it up), but by Chris’ Jurassic Park co-star Bryce Dallas Howard and former TV wife Aubrey Plaza.

Chris gave a big shout out to God, then advised kids on how to poop at a party. He really missed an opportunity to join those two thoughts together. As anyone who has ever endured the nightmare of shitting at a party knows that most of the time is spent praying, “Dear god, please let this go down, this is the only bathroom in the place.
