The First Look At “Wonder Woman” Sequel Gives A Spoiler

Because the folks at Warner Bros. presumably like making money and because last year’s Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot raked in $822 million worldwide, they’re at work on the seque right nowl. The studio released a few first looks of the next movie, and it reveals that we’ll watch Wonder Woman taking to the 1980’s in the film, to be called Wonder Woman 1984. I get that nobody freaks our inner middle schooler out like a George Orwell reference, but I really think they missed an opportunity here by not having Wonder Woman just team up with Julia Sugarbaker to take down that bitch who mocked Suzanne during that “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” episode of the first season of Designing Women.

Coming Soon says Wonder Woman will fast forward from World War I to the 1980’s to fight a new villain: the Cheetah, played by Kristin Wiig. This only makes sense since most women of the 80’s battled against cheetah print at one point or another. Well, that and scrunchies. In a bit of a (SPOILER ALERT) surprise, Chris Pine will be back in the role of Steve, which is a little amusing given how his plane ride ended in the first movie. Alas, he’s in one of the shots looking a little confused in a mall, which I imagine how most shopping trips in the 80’s went when you saw so many pairs of acid-washed mom jeans in the window display at J.C. Penney.

Another pic shows Gal/Wonder Woman peering at several televisions with a pseudo curious/pseudo “something in the buttermilk ain’t clean” expression on her face.

You see Larry Hagman as J.R. in Dallas, Christie Brinkley in National Lampoon’s Family Vacation, but no Golden Girls?! I know Golden Girls didn’t come out until 1985, but hear me out. It’s wrong that Wonder Woman is schlepping all the way to the Reagan years and won’t get to decide if she’s more of a Blanche or a Dorothy!
