Samantha Bee Apologized Again For Using The Word C*unt As An Insult
When Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a cunt, she did it at the worst possible time. Had she not said it on the heels of the Roseanne shitstorm, it’s quite possible nobody would have even noticed. But she said it when she said it, and the fecal hurricane reversed course and threatened to blow the roof off of Samantha’s house. Samantha issued an apology during her acceptance speech for a Television Academy Honors award she won for Full Frontal. And last night, Samantha issued a second, more pointed apology.

It’s nice to know that in #thesetryingtimes, there are still some clear-headed people able to string together a chain of rational, sane and heartfelt words. In case you weren’t able to listen, Samantha basically said that she uses the word “cunt” on her show frequently, but using it as an insult “crossed the line“. For that she is sorry. Samantha’s cunt-losophy fell on the side reclaiming the word, but she is sorry to have caused pain to any women who have been traumatized by it in the past. She also apologized to the kids who are suffering under our current immigration policies who were the subject of her Ivanka rant. But most importantly, Samantha dis-apologized to Ted “America’s cunt” Cruz (via People):
I want this show to be challenging and I want it to be honest but I never intended it to hurt anyone except Ted Cruz,” she jokingly said, adding, “Many men were also offended by my use of the word, I do not care about that.”
If there’s one good thing to come out of the current administration, it’s Melania Trump conspiracy theories. But if there are two good things, the other one is the national debate we’re having about the word “cunt”. It really highlights the quality of our national discourse. It’s like, “America, do you want cunts? Because this is how you get cunts”.
Samantha also did a re-do on her story about immigrant kids, this time with a bank of censors at the ready should any cunting profanity slip from her lips.

I think Samantha weathered this storm pretty well. I hear more people calling Ivanka Trump a feckless cunt these days than ever before! Samantha ultimately got the attention she wanted on the issue of immigrant children, plus and she got a bonus dig in at Ted cunting Cruz. Advantage: Sam Bee!
