Grimes Says Her Boyfriend Elon Musk Would Never Prevent His Workers From Unionizing

For a few years now, Elon Musk has been dodging accusations that he’s busted any attempts by Tesla factory workers to unionize. Elon’s current girlfriend Grimes has recently come to his defense. And according to her, all the talk about her billionaire capitalist boyfriend being anti-union is just “fake news.

Elon first purchased the Tesla factory in Fremont, California in 2010, and the employee issues started around 2014. In the years from 2014 to 2017, ambulances had reportedly been called to the factory more than 100 times for fainting spells, dizziness, seizures, and chest pains. Hundreds more were reportedly called for injuries and other medical issues. 15 current and former factory workers spoke to The Guardian in 2017, claiming that they were working too many long hours in unsafe conditions. At the time, Elon claimed he “cared deeply” about his workers’ health, and admitted his workers were working really hard, but that they had no choice. Elon said:

“This is not some situation where, for example, we are just greedy capitalists who decided to skimp on safety in order to have more profits and dividends and that kind of thing. It’s just a question of how much money we lose. And how do we survive? How do we not die and have everyone lose their jobs?”

In 2017, the National Labor Relations Board got involved after finding merit in several Tesla employee complaints, including one of alleged union-busting. That same year, Elon reportedly sent out an email to employees allegedly stating that unions would be bad for Tesla, and that the United Automobile Workers union only benefited huge car companies, like GM. According to the Internet, Elon Musk is worth $18.8 billion dollars.

So here’s where Grimes comes in. According to SF Gate, a Twitter user told her to “please ask Elon to let his workers unionize.” In a series of tweets that she’s since deleted (but saved by ONTD), Grimes claims Elon never prevented anyone from forming a union, and the Tesla factory is totally safe. Even though Grimes used to identify as an anti-imperialist, she’s very much into capitalism because…public transit sucks?

She then tweeted that the topic was “too nuanced” for Twitter before deleting them all, and that she’d address more in a Reddit AMA to promote her upcoming music (but she also deleted that tweet as well). Elon also defended himself against the anti-union and unsafe working conditions allegations yesterday.

Wow, what a fun date night. Fighting haters on Twitter, which I assume was followed by a brisk 10 minutes of banging in a custom-made space ship bed as Elon shouts “Oh, c!” That’s right, Grimes – whose real name is Claire Boucher – announced recently that she’s legally changing her name from Claire to the lower-case letter c.

She also denied that she’s changing her name for Elon.

I know Grimes thinks she knows her boyfriend and his factory inside and out, but what she doesn’t seem to realize is that she probably got the billionaire’s girlfriend tour. That’s the one where he takes her past the nicest machines on their way to the complimentary frozen yogurt stand. If she really wanted to know what the factory was about, she should have pulled an Undercover Boss. And it’s not like anyone would question what appears to be a 30-year-old woman in a fake moustache. According to all those Tesla employee complaints, anyone skeptical would most likely pass out on the floor before they were able to figure out the weird new employee was Grimes.
