Fox fired Clayne Crawford for allowing the spirit of Mel Gibson to invade his body on set of Lethal Weapon The TV Show. But instead of cancelling the show, Fox just burned some sage, waved it around a little and announced that it’s renewing it for a 3rd season, replacing Clayne with Seann William Scott. And they gave his extraneous “n” its own trailer and everything!
The Hollywood Reporter says Seann will be playing a new character instead of just pretending that Martin Riggs ran out of an explosion in slow motion, too slowly, and his face melted off and he lost several inches in his legs that required extensive plastic surgery, and that’s why he looks like Stifler from American Pie now. THR adds that “Scott may play the brother to Crawford’s Martin Riggs, thus keeping the well-known name in the mix”. That’s a relief because artistic and canonical integrity have been, and will always be, top priorities for Lethal Weapon The TV Show. Just ask Clayne.
After posting an apology on Instagram claiming that he was a dick because he cared too much, Clayne has now put himself on a time out and is playing nice, offering congratulations to his beloved cast and crew on the new season.
The question now is, will Fox hire an on-set exorcist to protect Seann from suffering the same fate as Clayne. Seann is vulnerable to Gibsonic possession, he did a stint in rehab back in 2011 for “health and personal issues”. Seann’s kept a low profile since then, doing a lot of voice work in the Ice Age movies and a “cult-favorite hockey drama” called Goons. This could be a big break for Seann. Maybe now people will stop referring to him as Stifler from American Pie and start referring to him as Riggs’ brother from that Lethal Weapon The TV Show.
