The DIC logo!

You truly weren’t a child of the 80s or 90s unless giggled every time you saw the DIC logo after watching a cartoon. And you truly weren’t a preteen of the 80s or 90s unless you shouted, “Eat a“, before the kid said “DIC” in the closing logo after a cartoon.

DIC was a production company that started in France in 1971. Believe it or not, DIC isn’t French for “Getting you to say dick!” DIC was short for Diffusion Information Communications. They produced shows in France before coming to America and taking over the cartoon world by giving us instant classics like Inspector Gadget, The Get Along Gang, Kidd Video, Heathcliff, Kissyfur, Maxie’s World, Popples, The Real Ghosbuster, Lady Lovely Locks, the ALF cartoon, the New Kids on the Block cartoon, Double Dragon, Street Sharks, and the Citizen Kane of cartoons, Beverly Hills Teens! We all definitely saw a lot of DIC in the 80s and 90s.

DIC went through a few owners and partners, including Disney, before closing up in 2008. They may be gone, but they’re not forgotten thanks to their magnificent artistic legacy, and their iconic DIC logo. The DIC logo popped up after one of their cartoons aired. Someone put together a supercut of 25 years of DIC! At around the 2:43 mark is the one that takes me all the way back. I don’t know who in To Catch A Predator HELL thought that a child saying DIC was a good idea. Does anyone know if Roman Polanski or Woody Allen was the head of DIC (the DIC head) ┬áback then?

Stroll down DIC memory lane…

Oh, DIC, you’re wrong for that and should be reported. But with that being said, you will forever hold a special place in my heart for being my first DIC joke.
