Claire Foy Will Get Back Pay To Close “The Crown” Wage Gap

Hello, hello! I’m baaaaack and missed you all very much. Before I scampered off to guzzle all the booze on vacation, everyone was outraged Dr. Who was making more than THE QUEEN…at least the fictionalized version…in The Crown. Now, it appears producers of the Netflix show are ready to do Claire Foy a solid and give her back pay to bring her salary equal to that of co-star Matt Smith. They should also throw in four corgis just to stay on brand.

The Daily Mail reports Claire will get £200,000 in back pay to make up for the fact that Matt made what some assume is £10,000 more than her for each of the show’s 20 episodes. While Matt’s salary was never actually revealed, it was previously mentioned that Claire made £29,000 per episode. Producers for The Crown tried to use the logic that Matt was a bigger name at the beginning of the show since he was known for starring in Dr. Who (or as I knew him: the clingy fling from the first season of Secret Diary Of A Call Girl!). That didn’t jive well with fans who demanded that Matt and the producers donate some of their salary to Time’s Up. Ha! That money was probably already blown at Harrods!

Producers eventually came out on an apology tour at the end of March to say they were sorry to both stars: to Claire for paying her less and to Matt for basically bringing him into a situation he didn’t know was going on. Matt eventually said there should be equal pay, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last week, he seemed glad there was a resolution:

“Claire is one of my best friends and I believe that we should be paid equally and fairly and there should be equality for all. I support her completely and I’m pleased that it was resolved and they made amends for it because that’s what needed to happen.”

Claire recently came out saying how important it is for women to advocate for better pay. While this all seems to have been resolved, and they have stressed nobody will make more than whoever is playing THE QUEEN going forward, nobody has checked in to see what the corgis on set think. If anyone should be paid the most, it’s the yappy soundtrack that follows her ass around all day!
