Jennifer Lopez’s New Single Asks The Question “When Will I Get The Ring?”

At last night’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, JLo graced the stage with her Zumba class-on-steroids style of music when she performed, El Anillo (which translates to “The Ring”), the third single from her new Spanish album Por la Primera Vez . She also released the official music video today. Of course, as soon as people heard the lyrics their eyes immediately darted straight towards JLo’s current beau Alex Rodriguez because we all know JLo isn’t necessarily famous for subtlety.

Upon first hearing the song I was like “OK J.Lo!” even though I didn’t know what the hell she was saying because it’s in Spanish. People broke down some of the lyrics and after reading them I realized that this is a declaration. She’s not just asking for a ring, she’s gripping A-Rod up, throwing him against the wall and screaming “Ring. NOW!!!”

The lyrics translate to, “I have never felt anything this grand/And your wild side drives me crazy/You’ve given me so much that I’ve been thinking/I already have it all, but/When will I get the ring?”

While she is asking when she can expect a sparkler back on that finger, Lopez insists she is not in a hurry to head back down the aisle.

“I’ve done that before. I’m a little bit more grown up now, and I like to let things take their natural course,” she said. “I know people are going to say that… we are really kind of good for each other and are really having the best time, and our kids love each other and all that.”

JLo, just stop. You’re not taking your time. You’re this generation’s Elizabeth Taylor and you realize you’re a few husbands behind schedule so this video is A-Rod’s reminder to go ring shopping this weekend. Hell, he’s probably at Jared right now. But aside from her obvious beat-driven ultimatum for A-Rod (which would be the perfect title for the English version), JLo says that she also has more music coming out focused on women’s empowerment.

“Right now, the songs that I have coming out, everything that’s going on with women – it’s a very empowering time for us. It’s a good time for us. We’re like “Yo this is not OK/this is OK, I want to be treated with respect, I want my place in your life, I want to be paid equally”. And my next two songs kind of deal with that. Where’s my ring, and where’s my money?”

Sounds like J.Lo is about to come through with her own version of Lemonade soon, which would probably be more like Tepid Lemon Water because she hasn’t had any sugar since the last cookie she ate during her Fly Girl days.

Below is the video for “El Anillo.” You can tell J.Lo was going for Lady GaGa as Cersei Lannister In Wakanda for this one.

Here’s pics from last night’s Latin Billboard Awards (with J.Lo wearing a dress made of tiny mirrors so A-Rod can stay attentive).
