Hot Slut Of The Day!

I Like Worms soda!

I’m not sure, but I have a feeling that nearly 99% of crap that existed in the 80s and 90s has been Hot Slut of the Day at least once. So every now and again, I have to dip into the other era of foolery, the 1970s (and sometimes earlier) for HSOTD material. (Cut to me making Jesus’ crown of thorns HSOTD in ten years after making everything that existed in history a HSOTD.)

In 1974, a company called The Larry and Duane Company (ran by two guys named Larry and Duane, DUH, who used to work at Pepsi-Cola) decided that what the beverage game really needed at the time was a sodie that had “worms” in the title. A commenter on In The 70s claims that their Uncle Duane got the idea while seeing a boy fishing. How Uncle Duane got the idea for a soda called I Like Worms from watching a boy fish is beyond the capabilities of what my brain can comprehend. But Uncle Duane thought it up!

Worms soda was the brainchild of my uncle, Duane then working as a Pepsi distributor in New Richmond WI. He hatched the idea for the name while seeing a young boy fishing while driving his routes. Worms became a regional hit in Northern WI and MN and represented a manifestation of Duane’s unorthodox ways and thinking, always ready to mix things up a bit. In addition to Worms, Duane also launched Rodeo soda. Thanks and we’ll miss you Duane.

One would think that a soda called I Like Worms soda would either taste like rotten fished mashed up with corn syrup or a rotting human corpse mashed up with dirt and corn syrup, but it tasted like black cherry, apparently.

Sadly, America never embraced the carbonated weirdness of a soda called I Like Worms, and it became worm food when it was buried in the soda pop cemetery sometime in the 70s. The Larry and Duane Company followed it. That’s sad. I mean, a soda called I Like Worms didn’t last long, yet a soda that should be called I Like Shit is still around today. And yes, I’m talking about Pepsi. And yes, I’m judging you if you like that shit.
