Carrie Underwood Talks About The Accident That Messed Up Her Face 

After an accident left Carrie Underwood with a bum wrist and 40 to 50 stitches in her face, she hid her visage from the world so that no one would recoil in horror at how hideously disfigured she was. In reality, she basically continued to look like Carrie Underwood. But it was a traumatic event for her, and she recently told the story of how it all happened. She also says her “big reveal” wasn’t supposed to be so dramatic.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Highway yesterday, host Storme Warren mentioned that her performance of her new single “Cry Pretty” at the Academy of Country Music Awards last Sunday was also billed as the big reveal of her healed face. Carrie says that was unintentional, and that her accident just happened to happen right after the CMAs in November. Storme then asked what happened, and Carrie described it.

Carrie took her two dogs, Ace and Penny, out for their last bathroom break that evening. She tripped, and in a moment of panic clutched onto the dogs’ leashes with her left hand and landed on her right wrist after missing a small step. She says if she had fallen anywhere else, she probably would have been fine, but it was just that one step that messed everything up.

When she got up, she took a look at what had happened. She figured it wasn’t too bad, but the results were the opposite. She had a chipped tooth, a broken wrist, and her face was torn open. She was taken into surgery and got dozens of stiches. She adds that she wasn’t sure how her face would heal, and that’s why she revealed to her fan club that she could potentially look a little different.

In a different interview with The Bobby Bones Show, Carrie said she’s got a scar that goes from her nose to her mouth and she covers it up with spackle.

But she’s pretty much back to normal now. The only question still left unanswered to me was what her dogs did when she fell. Did Ace and Penny jump into action like littlest hobos, with Ace heroically propping himself up under Carrie’s wrist as a splint while brave Penny ran for help? Or did Ace and Penny start licking themselves and wonder what was taking their human so long to feed them their pre-beddies Snausage yet. Only Ace and Penny’s guilty pup faces will tell the truth.
