Lauryn Hill Is Going On Tour For The 20th Anniversary Of “Miseducation”

Whenever I think of tax evasion pioneer Lauryn Hill I’m immediately reminded of Thanksgiving 1998 when me and my cousin were in my old blue Jeep house hopping and racking up plates like we were Shaggy and Scooby. During that ride, Lauryn’s classic masterpiece The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill provided the soundtrack for that day, and many days to come after that. Well, everyone listen up!! It’s been 20 years since Miseducation was released, and to commemorate the occasion Ms. Hill is embarking on a multicity tour beginning this summer.

Now, I know what you’re thinking,“Should we bring our stopwatches to see how late she’ll be this time?” And the answer is, of course, “YES!”, because when you go to a Lauryn show you never really know what you’re going to get. Hell, sometimes you may not even get her. However, one of the biggest draws of this tour is the fact that Lauryn will be performing Miseducation in its entirety. Pitchfork, who Lauryn will be headlining for during their annual music festival in Chicago, reports that the tour kicks off in July. Lauryn had this to say;

“This album chronicled an intimate piece of my young existence. It was the summation of most, if not all, of my most hopeful and positive emotions experienced to that date. I Loved and believed deeply in my community’s ability to both Love and heal itself provided it received the right amount of support and encouragement. Our world today, both complex and changing, is in need of the balance between moral fortitude and cathartic expression. I hope the Love and energy that permeated this work can continue to inspire change with Love and optimism at the helm.”

It’s crazy to think that when Miseducation first dropped Lauryn was so young and fresh faced. Now, after some questionable life choices and a few babies, she looks like that one neighbor on your block who will chase you off of her lawn with a baseball bat if you step on it. Still, there will be tons of folks lined up to check the show out for the anniversary tour, yours truly included. Other stops on the tour include dates in Boston, Charlotte, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Phoenix and New Orleans. Tickets officially go on sale this Friday, April 20th, which as you know is 420!

And I know why the organizers behind this tour chose that date. They knew people would have to be high to pay to see Lauryn potentially arrive nine hours late, recite a few verses of “Lost Ones” then abruptly disappear through an onstage trap door in a puff of smoke that spells out “Fuck y’all refunds!!”

Here she is performing at Saturday’s 2018 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee ceremony. And please disregard that walking Muppet she’s wearing as a dress. Y’all know….it’s Lauryn.
