The Lead Singer Of Earth, Wind and Fire Approves Of Taylor Swift’s Version Of “September”

Do you remember last week when Taylor Swift decided to slap a big ‘ol glob of mayonnaise over the smokiest, most succulent ribs at the cookout by covering the classic family reunion banger September by Earth, Wind & Fire? Her version of the song kinda reminds me of the Trump administration because it has absolutely no soul. At all. But my opinion matters not since the group’s lead singer Philip Bailey is giving her rendition a huge thumbs up!

According to TMZ Phillip had nothing but love for Tay’s cover of their classic song, which is nice because had that been me I’d have to school her like someone’s grandmother telling them not to touch the good china unless they wanted to lose all of their fingers. I’m going to assume Philip is a little more reserved than I am since he approves of Taylor’s bland potato salad offering.

Philip weighed in on Taylor’s acoustic, country rendition of their iconic 1978 song, saying he likes her singer-songwriter take on it. He added, “music is free like that,” and told Taylor … “Ain’t Got Nothing But Love for Ya #freedominmusic.”

Philip is not the only person attached to the original that co-signs this mess. The song’s co-writer Allee Willis also had words of approval for Taylor’s version. In a statement to Billboard, Allee wrote:

September’ was my first hit and favorite song of mine I ever have had the joy of being a part of. Taylor Swift is the absolute cherry on top of a very soulful and happy sundae.”

Translation: a bitch bout ta’ get PAID!!! Because if this song, which she shared via music streaming service Spotify, becomes a hit for Taylor then Allee Willis is about to receive a few checks in the mail real soon. And that’s probably why the only people who hate Taylor’s version are the ones who stand to gain nothing from it. Personally, it sounds just like everything else she’s done in the past, so it doesn’t bother me. But I will say this, anyone who tries to slip this shit into the playlist during summertime gatherings will immediately be ejected from the party.
