Kathy Griffin Won’t Be Having Anderson Cooper Over For Dinner Anytime Soon

It’s been about 10 months since Kathy Griffin posed for that photo of what was supposed to be her holding a Trump head, and she’s slowly rebounded back. Most people thought she would be our answer to Eartha Kitt and never be able to work in the U.S. again, but that was based on people here being able to have a long-term memory. We can barely remember what happened on last season of Scandal, so Kathy is suddenly popping up on U.S. media and is doing a stateside tour. Part of the press tour has naturally been about that snake Andy Cohen taking her perch next to Anderson Cooper on CNN’s New Year’s Eve show. She feels about how you’d expect.

Kathy showed up on The Howard Stern show on Tuesday, and she was very coy when Howard Stern asked her about what went down. Oh, you know I’m kidding. She basically said shit was getting a little sour in their friendship before the Trump photo went down because he has the attention span of a gnat:

“I was in love with him as a friend.I loved him as a friend. [The friendship] was closer the first five years, then I think he’s the type of guy who’s into shiny objects, so later on he wasn’t as into it.”

Well, Kathy, being into shiny objects is part of being gay. How else would you explain Liberace’s mansion?

Kathy said the two of them still had a genuine friendship, as she stayed at his house, did dinners, and she had a thing for his mother. It’s unclear if she was more about Gloria Vanderbilt’s jeans line, her erotic literature, or just her personality, but it sounds like Anderson wasn’t as into his and Kathy’s friendship as Kathy was:

“Like, he wouldn’t do promos for me and stuff. But still, we would get together on New Year’s and the magic would happen and he’s smart and I love his mother.”

Howard then decided to play a little game and asked Kathy whose life, between Andy and Anderson, she would save if she could only save one. “I would let them both die,” said Kathy. Oh! I mean, on the one hand, it’s always sad to see celebrity friendships end (no it isn’t). But on the other…how meta would it be if Andy ends up hosting his own CNN New Year’s Eve Reunion special?!
