Zooey Deschanel, Taye Diggs And Rebel Wilson Are In The Hollywood Bowl’s “Beauty And The Beast” Concert
We’ve barely finished scouring the 2017 live action version of Beauty and The Beast for homosexual subtext and the Hollywood Bowl is already trying to complicate matters further by changing LeFou into a woman in their upcoming live concert. Entertainment Weekly reports that Rebel Wilson will be strapping one on to play LeFou opposite Taye Diggs as Gaston. Sorry Idris, you’ll just have to wait for the inevitable next “re imagining“. But wait, it gets worse! Belle’s about to get reverse She’s All That-ed and will be played by Zooey Deschanel.
The Hollywood Bowl announced Monday it will be hosting Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in Concert for just two days on May 25 and 26. The cast was announced with Deschanel as Belle, Wilson as LeFou and Diggs as Gaston. Other cast members include Kelsey Grammer, who will be singing “Be Our Guest” as Lumière, Jane Krakowski, who will be performing the title song as Mrs. Potts, and Anthony Evans, who will be playing the Beast.
I’m glad I don’t live in L.A. so I won’t even be tempted to see this mess. Sadly, I’m sure that since BATB doesn’t seem to be able to NOT make money, it will eventually end up on Netflix or Hulu and I’ll find myself mindlessly consuming the sight of Belle in “smart chick” glasses strum that Belle song out on the ukulele while Rebel diddles herself stage left.
The cast are super stoked about this event because it’s definitely going to be more fun for them than it is for us. Rebel says she “will be mentally preparing for the role in France by eating croissants.” Zooey says that BATB was one of her favorite movies growing up, because of course it was, and playing Belle is “a dream come true”. Taye Diggs is “giddy” and has always wanted to play Gaston. The title song makes Kelsey Grammer cry and since they didn’t have a quote from Jane Krakowski I’ll just say she’s “over the moon”. I don’t know who Anthony Evans is but that probably means he is an actual singer who will blow the rest of the dilettante cast out of the water. Ok, maybe not Taye. Taye Diggs gets a pass.
