Mo’Nique’s Interview During “The View” Made Whoopi Goldberg Speak Up

For about a month, Mo’Nique has been gracing us all with her Kiss My Ass Netflix tour, and it has been met with mixed reviews. Some stand with her while others wish she’d just shut up about her million dollar (or half a million dollar) problems. Well, she ain’t goin’ nowhere! Yesterday she took her act to New York to speak on The View. Of course, she’s still reminding everyone of how Hollywood hates her and wants to see her starve, but while speaking on The ViewWhoopi Goldberg quickly hit the pause button on Mo’Nique to get her all the way together.

As most know, Mo’ has a problem with Netflix because they offered her a measly $500,000 for a comedy special while they offered Amy Schumer millions upon millions more. Netflix’s argument was that Amy sold out Madison Square Garden twice and had a hit movie in 2017. But Mo’ wasn’t try’na hear that mess because she knows she can get asses in the seats (she even slapped her own ass when she said it, which means she believes that shit). Joy Behar asked Mo’ to elaborate on her current status as Hollywood’s step-child.   According to MadameNoire Mo’ has been experiencing the backlash since starring in Precious (directed by Lee Daniels) and it’s been a thorn in her slappable ass since that time.

“Eight years ago I did a movie called Precious. On that film I received $50,000. That was not my argument, nor my fight because that’s what I signed up for,” she said. “My deal was with a man named Lee Daniels. I did all of my contractual obligations and I was done. Then I started getting phone calls from Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. They wanted me to come work for free. To go over to Cannes and promote this film internationally. I said to them, ‘Guys, my deal is with Lee Daniels and I’ve done my job.’ And they all agreed.”

Mo’ continued speaking on the aftermath of her refusal and then she actually likened what she experienced to the #metoo movement by stating,“This is what happens, in my humble opinion, when you don’t go up to the hotel room.” Comparing a studio wanting you to promote a movie to actresses getting assaulted in hotel rooms is probably not the best way to win votes for your side.  And that’s when Whoopi had her very own “Imma let you finish” moment by cutting her off.

“I’m going to stop you,” Goldberg interjected. “Because contractually, when you make a movie, regardless of who you sign the deal with, your job is to go and promote said movie. So, when they wanted you to come — and we’ve had this conversation. I told you, ‘If you had called me, I could have schooled you on what was expected.’”

Whoopi tried to lay the game out for her but Mo’ had no time for that. She instead decided to explain exactly what she meant.

Now when I make this statement, ‘This is what happens when you don’t go to the room,’ what Tyler Perry showed me, Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and Lionsgate, is when you don’t do what we ask you to do, we’ll take your livelihood. So for eight years, my family has suffered and my career has suffered because what I would not allow those entities to do was bully me. And because I didn’t allow the bullying to happen, this is now what I sit in.

Sometimes I wish she would have just taken the cash, had her special and then flipped the publicity to expand her fan base. But she feels like she’s worth more than half a million dollars so she’s still trying to make it make sense instead of touring to make dollars and cents. And I also wish that since Mo’Nique was wearing the same shade of lipstick that Coco Rocha wore on The Face, Whoopi would’ve channeled Naomi Campbell and said, “Check your lipstick, Mo’, before you come and talk to me.”
