Joy Behar And Meghan McCain Got Into It On “The View”

The View hasn’t had a good brawl since Whoopi Goldberg battled intelligence with that “rape rape” comment. Joy Behar and Meghan McCain were generous enough to give the viewing audience an exciting callback to the “Rosie O’Donnell prepping to devour Elisabeth Hasselbeck“-era by throwing down on Friday’s episode.

As Uproxx points out, things got heated when the The View vixens were back-and-forthing about the recent Rob Porter scandal. Porter is the now former White House staff secretary who quit when his two ex-wives went public with accusations of domestic abuse. The discussion turned to how much White House Chief of Staff John Kelly might have known about the situation before it made the news. Joy and Meghan were actually arguing FOR the same side at first, but Joy’s snark over the situation got under John McCain’s little girl’s skin.

“We shouldn’t make levity of this, we’re talking about the abuse of a woman,” McCain interjected. “Look at that photo, you shouldn’t be laughing.”

“We”re talking about Kelly, we’re not talking about abuse right now,” Behar shot back. “Don’t say something like that.”

Meghan felt that Joy was being catty about her side of the political fence. Hint: It’s the one with the shitty president. She let Joy know that she was offending her as a Republican. Joy responded with a heartfelt apology. That was sarcasm.

“As a Democrat, I’m offended by Republicans,” Behar offered.

Co-host Sunny Hostin managed to defuse the tension. For about a minute.

A few minutes later, while discussing how Jared Kushner doesn’t have White House security clearance, McCain turned it back around.

“You’re offended by Republicans, all Republicans, offended by me sitting here?” she asked. “Pretty much,” Behar retorted. “I’m offended by a party that backs a racist.”

A truly irritated Meghan responded by echoing how many of us feel when having to watch The View whilst waiting for the doctor or the completion of an oil change.

Exasperated, McCain rolled her eyes and exclaimed, “Oh my god!”

UpRoxx captured exactly how Sunny Hostin felt in the middle of this.

Meghan endeavored to calm everyone’s breasts and appealed to the spirit of bipartisanship. She forgot that, if you’re not on Joy Behar’s squawky opinion train, you’re right out in front of it.

“I was actually looking forward to talking about this in a way that is respectful and not being told that just because I’m a Republican I’m offending you,” McCain continued. “We are not going to move the needle one way or the other just throwing out platitudes and hubris like that, and I would like to have a real conversation about this.”

Joy was unmoved, especially when Meghan plugged an upcoming appearance on CNN’s The Van Jones Show. It should be noted that shrieking shit-stirrer Nancy Grace was on the panel and came off looking calm and composed in this sitch. When Nancy Grace is quietly raising her eyebrows at you…

After some more back and forth, McCain said once again that she looked forward to having the conversation with Jones on Saturday and Behar sniped back, “Good,” before cutting to what must have been the most awkward commercial break ever.

You can watch the exchange below. Keep in mind that no fights on The View will ever match the heady days of Rosie O’Donnell trying to spread BBQ sauce on Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s empty head before trying to eat her.
