Rose McGowan Got Into A Messy Screaming Fight With A Trans Woman During An Event For Her Book (UPDATE)

Rose McGowan has been really busy promoting her book Brave, her E! reality show and talking about how she’s leading her #ROSEARMY to fight the rapists. She’s been everywhere talking about sexual abuse in Hollywood and her own experiences, like how she was molested by a very famous man when she was only 15 and how the iconic dress she wore to the 1998 MTV VMAs was a protest against The Monster (aka Harvey Weinstein) she says raped her. Many have praised Rose for fighting the fight against predators, but others (like Meryl Streep) haven’t been happy about some of things she’s said. One of Rose’s critics came at her during an event for her book at the Barnes & Noble in Manhattan’s Union Square on Wednesday night, and it turned into a raging dumpster fire of a wreck. It was like a scene out of Tumblr Fight: Live!

Variety says that during the event, Rose talked to the audience a bit before answering pre-submitted questions, and after answering one, a trans woman shouted at her about some shit she said on RuPaul and Michelle Visage’s podcast What’s The Tee? last year. This is what Rose said on Ru’s podcast, via PinkNews:

During the episode, she said that trans women thought they knew what it was like to grow up female, “because they felt like a woman on the inside,” but that this was false.

“That’s not developing as a woman,” said McGowan.

“That’s not growing as a woman, that’s not living in this world as a woman and a lot of the stuff I hear trans [women] complaining about, yeah, welcome to the world.”

The trans woman told Rose to talk about how she said that trans women aren’t like regular women, and claimed that trans women are raped more often and suffer domestic abuse more frequently. The woman also brought up how a trans woman was killed not too far away from them. That quickly changed the mood from calm to a disaster so big that I’m surprised an audience member didn’t call FEMA.

Rose said that they’re the same, and then gave a shout out to the ID channel:

“Hold on. So am I. We are the same. My point was, we are the same. There’s an entire show called ID channel, a network, dedicated to women getting abused, murdered, sexualized, violated, and you’re a part of that, too, sister. It’s the same.”

The trans woman continued to scream that Rose does nothing for trans women and that trans women are in men’s prisons. Rose shot back with, “What have you done for women?” The woman said, “Lots of things,” and continued to shout at Rose, who eventually stood up and ordered the woman to get out. Security eventually escorted the woman away, and as she was kicked out, she screamed, “CIS WHITE FEMINISM,” at Rose. That really set Rose off. Rose said that the woman was “so fucking boring” before shouting that she doesn’t “come from your planet. ” She continued to go off, saying to step the fuck back, shut the fuck up and to put down the labeling gun.

“And you can label this thing as a breakdown. That, motherfuckers, is a breakdown. Maybe not for me, but for you. I might have information you want. I might know shit that you don’t. So fucking shut up. Please systemically. For once. In the world. You know what I’m talking about. Just tell the God damned truth. Stop boxing everybody into shit. I didn’t agree to your cis fucking world. Ok? Fuck off.”

Rose was still shook up even after the woman left the building. Her fans tried to calm her down by blowing her air kisses of love, but she kept on. The thing she said about the tampon advertising will make you turn into a human question mark, and then you’ll dig through the part of your brain that stores adorable animal videos for times like these.

“Trans women are women and what I’ve been trying to say is that it’s the same. The stats are not that dissimilar. When you break it down, it is a much smaller population. There’s not a network here devoted to your fucking death. There’s not advertisers advertising tampons with a camera lovingly going up a girl’s body as she’s being lovingly raped and strangled. Piss off. And until you can collect that fucking check, back up. My name is Rose McGowan and I am obviously fucking brave.”

A disaster from start to finish… On one hand, the trans rights-activist started off piping hot and set the tone for a shipwreck. On the other hand, Rose took it another level and her “I don’t come from your planet” line is probably not a good thing to say when you’re trying to convince a trans woman that you’re not transphobic. And while watching the videos (below), I kept waiting for an audience member to raise their hand and say, “Errr, why don’t you two join forces to rage against the real enemy: you know, the rapists.” Or they could’ve said, “Sooo, um, Rose, how do you feel about that awful Charmed reboot?”

UPDATE: Rose thinks that the trans woman was a plant paid by her enemies, and also announced that she’s taking a break.

UPDATE II: Several women on Twitter claim that the trans activist is Andi Dier and they’ve accused her of preying on underage girls. Just when I thought this couldn’t get even messier.
